IN THE NEWS ( I think it is crap and it does not make me want to use Microsoft)

According to the Financial Times Bing is looking to pay major websites to delist from Google

Microsoft has had discussions with News Corp over a plan that would involve the media company being paid to de-index its news websites from Google.

The Financial Times has learnt that Microsoft has also approached other big online publishers to persuade them to remove their sites from Googles search engine.

One website publisher approached by Microsoft said that the plan puts enormous value on content if search engines are prepared to pay us to index with them. This is all about Microsoft hurting Googles margins.

Steve Ballmer, chief executive of Microsoft, has said that the company is prepared to spend heavily for many years to make Bing a serious rival to Google.

Aww man that such a dirty trick from them. But i guess if the money is much more than what we get from an organic traffic came from big g I say why not.

But i still think we did lose some of our credentials if de index from google.

It's not a good idea. If they want to compete with google, then try their very best by doing clean moves.

I guess if they can do webmasters dirty why not have the same done to them?

I think that MSN will have to pull out all the stops to try and catch google (if ever)

They will not be able to hurt Google by having such deal with 2 or 3 websites.
And if they go for many websites ( and pay hefty amount to all of them ) I don't think they will be in profit.

What a desperate move, it will definitely not work. Why won't Bing and Microsoft run some earning services instead of buying loyalty.

whether dirty trick or not, i WANT a rival of google emerging. we as online business owners have more room to play and google will have to put a tight leash on their wild horse of tyranny (yeh, we banned your adwords or adsense account but will not show you any reason why we did that. cause we are google. what a full of crap)

its a short time solution, if microsoft bing want to find solution for long term in search engine segment then they need to put some good quality features.

It is not dirty at all. It is just a different method.

Why should they not pay webmasters? Some sites have great content, offer great services, but make little money, while search engines (Well, Google) make a lot of money. If one search engine is prepared to pay webmasters to have an excellent website in their search results, then I think that is fair.

I think if it is true, it good be a great solution. If many big sites sign up to be in only Bing, then where will users search?

I would search with Bing if all the best sites appeared in Bing only.

Microsoft is in a position to out perform Google if its picks up correct strategies. Google as a brand has grown enormously. People (vast majority) don't quite know what a search engine is. All they know is, Google. You'll hear them tell you to go to google and enter the name of the product. As if there was no other search engine out there.

Some of the things Microsoft could do to compete with Google are as follows:

    1) Partner with leading websites, not buy them or bribe them. These websites can feature Bings organic search results as well as PPC ads. A very large Bing publisher network is urgently needed.

    2) Come up with a solid algorithm and the capacity to index webpages of large websites as comprehensively as possible.

    3) Partner with smaller websites as well who have very good content. I am referring to an adsense type remuneration here.

Google earns 1 billion per quater and microsoft earns around 13 billions, So microsoft can out perform google as everything can be bought with money in this world.

Best way to stop them is in the pockets like they do to others...

I bet if MSN would offer better money in PPC to webmasters showing there ads
then the tide (after few years) would change as the adsence bunnys would surely
start promoting MSN ads and soon forget about adsence and there lowball payments
and slow google cash flow. Doing so would build MSNs - Bings popularity on a larger scale
(there ads everywhere) forcing google to react and spend money (advertising) and
ultimately slowing them down or force them to change there strategy or game plans ...

If you remember it was google that got popular via "search" then there "cash cow" arrived.. "adsence"

If there is a will there is a way :)

This is a good thing...not the dirty trick pulled by MS, but the fact that you can see major competition occurring here. Thats always good for the consumer....no matter what the situation

    That's a good news.

Finally someone dare to challenge google, hope the war will continue and the customer will benefit more from it.
