Should I donate to wikipedia ?

Hello ,

I see wikipedia collects huge amount of donations , when I checked them yesterday they collected 1.2 Million Dollars , Now I checked them again they collected 1.4 Million dollar . Do you think I should donate to help them ?! Is $1000 donaton enough to show gratitude ?

 

If it helped you in the past, yes. But if it didn't happen that much, than you can always donate the $1000 to me. I'll make sure it's in good hands

IMO in a webmasters point of view, it's better to invest that money into other stuff away from Wikipedia. But if it helped you a lot already, than you might give a few bucks (although that $1000 is a lot IMO )

It never helped me and I rarely use it , I donated now a 200 only to help them Also my name is written in their donors list now

If you're gonna donate money, donate it to charity. There's plenty of hungry children in third world countries that need it more than Wikipedia.

 

Yes i agree that there are those less fortunate that need our help and you dont see any off these
monster companies and businesses like google,wiki, doing anything to help others unless it benefits
them in the long run... sad but true

Well I believe it is worth donating for the great service they are providing us with.

 

Wikipedia is a great service. I have donated $1,200 once. Well only half was mine.

 

And where will the money go after wikipedia received?

 

the money goes to wikimedia foundation. they use the money to keep wikipedia running (hosting etc.). I think they get about 300 million page views a day. But, even with the donations, wikipedia is dying. A lot of their contributors are leaving ( http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-10403467-93.html ).

 

you should probably consider donating some money to dubai world as well. I think they might need it.

 

why they doesn't add some ads or something so they have some income
well donate is good,,,although I'm very rare using wikipedia,,,I always uses google ^^

 

Wow, it's a shame that there are a lot less volunteers. Hopefully more people will jump on the bandwagon and write for Wikipedia. I love Wikipedia, and love to learn more things, but it seems that I always end up on tiny articles and stuff. It would be nice to see more articles, for sure... especially for things I'm interested in!

 

I think they did consider outing ads but, a lot if the contributors and users were against ads on wikipedia. But, I think eventually they will have to go that way because, these donation can not continue for ever. And if wikipedia really has to be around a few years from now they have to monetize in some way or the other.

 

Not really , $200 donation isn't a big deal , some people donated $1000 and More ..

 

Wow, there is someone donating every minute, sometimes even in between a couple of seconds!

 

That's when an awesome idea and hard work really pays off
