What's the best web server?

Hi, I came across several web servers which claims to be MUCH faster than Apache (like double or triple the performance).

Is it really true that there are other web servers out there that are much better than Apache? If so why Apache is still the most popular one?

Do you have any recommendation based on your personal experience?

    Thanks for any insight.

There is nothing like best web server, what matters is what is best for you, and it depends on what are you going to use it for.

Most of the other web servers claiming to be better, at some point lack something here or there. Apache is most popular because
it is among the oldest one,
    it is free and opensource,
    it is most compatible,

    There are many reasons...

Recommendation, it again depends on what kind of site you are going to run, in most of the circumstances you may combine two web server to get the most benefits, like nginx + apache.

If you're inexperienced enough that you're asking a question like "What is the 'best' webserver?", then you likely are looking for a webserver that's easy to maintain and configure. As Vinsar points out "best" is subjective of what you're trying to do with it.

In what situation would you consider use nginx? I've heard a lot about this one.

    Thanks.

Apache as for me ! but it's not in my opinion what you choose it depends on your self what you prefer :)

well as it's free you can try it anytime GL !

and what you said about speed like ''others are faster etc'' well if it's faster thats not automaticly better maybe it lack's of some good features !
