I would suggest you to start off with articles and forums. Then you can move on to blog commenting and profile links.
- Post articles on article directories such as ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com etc. - Post on forums - find differents places such as yahoo answers (no follow but still gets traffic), facebook, youtube etc. - Do it slowly. Better to post 2 links everyday for 30 days than to post 10 links per day during 3 days.
Submit Your site in Social Bookmarking site, Press Release Submission, Blog Posting, Forum Posting, Article Submission, Blog Commenting.
Classified and social bookmarking submission are not very useful in ranking. Very few classified allow you to add your url. Article submission, press release, directory submission and blogging are the best and effective way.

There are lots of articles online and links on this very forum on how to build backlinks. Follow them and you will be fine. Some of the guys here would be happy to exchange links with you if you have a relevant and related niche. I might consider giving you a link back if your blog is not spammy and in the same market sector as mine. Good luck
I utilize an article submitter that utilizes a unique way of rotating articles so that every directory and blog it submits to get an original variation. It also gives you the option of how many submissions you choose to send out every day, this characteristic is totally automatic. Using this tool has given me first page search engine positions for hundreds of keywords by generating 1,000's of inbound links for most of my keywords.

Good question. I'm actually putting the finishing touches on a free report about link building. Here's what I know about it: -- Place ads on free ad sites (e.g., Craigslist, USfreeads) -- Pay link services here at DP to list your site in many free directories -- Email non-competitive sites and ask for a link exchange. (Have their link visible on your page already, though.) -- Create a Link Exchange page on your site, inviting people to participate with you. -- Write mega lists as blog posts in your niche (e.g., "88 Ways to Lose Weight" or "101 Free Tools") -- Set up pages on free microsites like Ning, Squidoo -- Article marketing, placing your articles in several big article directories. FYI, I just put a Link Exchange page on my copywriting service site, Copy Clique. You can go there to see how I set it up.
