Why wouldn't I quit college?

So... I know, stupid question for some of you, but hey! Hear me out:

(make yourself comfortable, this might take a while)

I am 19. I worked as a freelancer until college started. I managed to get accepted with high grades, so I don't pay anything for college... I don't pay any $, but I pay over 6h/day with it.

As a freelancer, I was able to make 500-1000$/month thanks to DP and all the know hows that I got over the years.

Now I am presented with a lot of opportunities. I had a thread here where I found some of those opportunities that I talk about.

It's a mess. I can't work and learn for college. I have a projects for the Programming Fundamentals that exceed a 400$ php project length and complexity , each week. This is great! I really love it! But, there is always a BUT: maths are a pain in the butt! They are 10 times harder, and I either have to invest the entire weekend, each weekend learning, or I fall back.

I don't even know if I will pass my exams right now, and it hurts because I know I have the ability to start my own business online, I know I have the ability to start my own company offline and hire people, while all people around me are telling me that I won't get employed if I don't have a diploma, but the thing is, I DON'T WANT TO BE EMPLOYED! I want to be the one employing!

So again... why wouldn't I quit college?

I was in your shoes and somehow regret now that I stayed in college. Some calculated "risk" you can do is to go to form of study where you show up only in exams time. It should be in your college, choose it just to get diploma.

But anyway based on what you write you are located in some 3rd world country and this education is not like $100k worth like in west so .... you've got my point. Don't listen to that fucking people. In IT you will be employed if you have skills.

I would encourage you to get your degree. You can always play around on the side with internet marketing. Really, there are a lot of people who spend a lot more time at their regular jobs and still do internet marketing on the side.

I respect the fact that you were making a decent income with it. And, if you want to, continue to do that! However, I assure you that it would be nice to always have something to fall back on if you need to. Generally speaking, I would recommend getting your degree in something related to internet marketing. Whether that is a business administration with a marketing emphasis, or maybe even computer science. Both of those would help you.

Thanks DPP, I really don't know what to do. I am from Romania, and I don't feel really great knowing that a friend of mine graduated (after 5 years) and got 2000$/month 2 months, then got unemployed!

I think it's a question of marketing skills. I think I can do a better job getting people together rather than working my ass out for someone.

    PHPGator,

I am at Computer Science. it's a mess. But I know that Business is really easy, so I'll consider getting a diploma there.

Isn't $2000 enough to live off for like a year in Romania? We have a team of web designers that that get paid like $500/month ($250 each) and they're living quite well off it.

$500 or $250 is not enough to live decent in romania (sometimes it's just a rent), get real, but $2k monthly sounds about right, no jokes:) They maybe a great designers, but obviously very retarted about selling themselves. Or maybe they are just schoolboys or first courses students in age of 14-19.

$2000 for a year ? Are you joking ? Romania maybe not US, but not Nigeria as well anyway.

Don't listen to PHP Gator, he is just one of that loosers. He was selling his $15 scripts here for a years and don't really earn anything with his websites, so yes for such people degree is a must.

    Christian Little,

Me and dad live just fine with 800~1000$/month. We cook food at home, and we get really cheap with that. All the money that I make, and that mom -who works in Italy - makes are extras.

I am thinking about outsourcing my html / basic php projects and starting to work seriously with a my own team. But again, for that I need the time.... or the money. Unfortunately I don't have the money to hire someone to do everything for me.

    DPParadise,

The Business Diploma was on my list when I made my choice. It's a lot easier and that's why I decided to go for Computer Science. I have a high school classmate there, and untill now everything is just great.

There would be one thing to discuss here... Will it really matter if I have a diploma or not?

I mean, let's say I fail, and I can't make any money on the internet. What happens? I can always sell some 'second hand' cars I've done that when I was 15~16 and it was good pocket money.
On the other hand, if I succeed, I have my own company, I earn enough to sustain my future family and I am also in charge of my life, I am the one that thinks and takes action and all in all, I am the man I dream to be.

If I have a diploma, I lose 5 years of my life learning, I meet a few guys and gals that are good in different fields, because college somehow has that bonus, and I start old, and get even older while getting in the same place as I would get if I didn't have a diploma. Because, no offense, but being a programmer 8 hours/day is insane. And project manager means being in the filed for a while, at least for big companies.

This is just like chess... I have to make a move and know what consequences it will have for the rest of my life. No option is best, but I have to decide!

Well, look at it this way:

You go to college so you can graduate to make money to survive, right?

But you say you can make money right now without finishing college, correct?

    Then do it.

If it turns out you can't bring in enough money to support yourself, go back to college.

Will it still be free if you leave and go back?

From my personal experience ( I quit high school 2 years ago ), sooner or later you'll regret it. It's not all about the money and things like that - it's just something you may never get back.

I left university to work online. Keep working hard online. You need just 4-5 years online. Then go start an offline business while making money online. You won't be paid that much when you get employed. I can make over 5000k per month online but never 500+ offline.

    Thats my one year experience.

My sincere advice is to continue your studies... I am not saying for the money or something else. Education is essential and it ploughs human heart as a good land to get cultivated good thoughts. Only a good human being can have a happy and peaceful sleep every night.(I mean to a satisfied and happy life). Just do up your Diploma u can spend some online money for your education by getting joined xtra class for the maths and other subjects you feel difficult. Don't quit your college, if you do you might feel better now. But one day you wil get worried on regretting it.

college is a waste of time. Unless you want to be someone else s beotch the rest of your life.

college is a tool factory it creates tools that people use to make there business for profits.
