I have to Magento is one of the best open source shopping cart. There is so much you can do with Magento.
I tried Magento but it is difficult to manage it. Try out PrestaShop. I think it is one of the best free shopping cart too.
Thanks for all its useful tips you have given for Open Source Cart i will follow them and hope i will get output from it.
Without a doubt Magento is way ahead of all the others. It is super user friendly for people who have no technical knowledge, but the best part is that it if very search engine friendly
if your not experienced with shopping carts try bigcartel or ejunkie if your only doing a few products - if your looking for something with a little more kick try zen cart
/\ yup big cartel for noobs, but your site will look rather average. Oscommerce for next level sht. PM me if you need help with it, happy to help.
which one of these is currently being used successfully in Australia..can any of you send me some reference sites. It must work with australia post and aussie gateway and also be workable for the tax system here? Are there modules for these and do you have to buy them or are they free?
Give me some aussie sites and I might be convinced. I don't think Magento is viable, hungry on resources, no support. Unless you are an expert at programming and run a software company I think you are ok You gotta pay lots in support if you are a serious business, for a amateur and small time , yes, go ahead and play with these kinds of OS products in the name of saving money..! I would rather go with a hosted solution..or even with Zencart which seems easier to setup and use.!
John, Why Zencart & Oscommerce? can you please elaborate. Some very basic guiding questions I've got for you and your fellow forum contributors who have been recommending OS carts: Analytics: 1. does the shopping cart have any analytics included 2. does it support the ability to include analytics code in every page – also does every page have a different and identifible name 3. can you add conversion tracking code to the basket process so that you can determine where basket drop out occurs 4. a little more advanced may be the need to create campaign tracking code that can be added to PPC adds and other websites to track marketing spend and conversion 5. can the analytics be matched to the business data regarding orders, customers and products Some questions around SEO: 1. carts ability to create different titles for every page and product 2. carts ability to create Meta descriptions and Meta keywords for every page and product 3. carts Ability to add alt and title tags to images 4. ability to create an XML sitemap and be able to easily maintain and update it and make it available in your domain root without the need for technical support, ftp or programing On top of all of these can you guys point me to some real live sites in medium to large businesses that are using either Magento, Zencart or Oscommerce..?
Anyone got answers to these questions or you all just good with your one liners pushing your preferences. If you have the depth then you might take time to read and answer rather then telling i should use this or that..give me some specific reasons why??
