My site does quite well for the keywords I focused on in google but can not seem to get there in yahoo. What do I need to do to my page to get listed higher up in yahoo?

    Thanks

Yahoo does seem to like different things than Google. I wouldn't do anything to lose your Google rankings. Just keep getting inbound links.

The keyword density tolerance is slightly higher in Yahoo. Make sure your site code is clean and W3 compliant.

Also, make sure your title tag contains your keyword/phrase at the very start and keyword meta details appear to be taken notice of in Yahoo (but keep them to less than 15 keyword/phrases.

do get listed on yahoo it not important, it is also important get listed on d irectory and ranking in yahoo search.

    as you can see
    http://search.yahoo.com/search/dir?h=c&p=www.a1directorysearch.com

    1) once you get listed on directory at dir.yahoo.com , also you will get listed on canada yahoo, india yahoo and more.

    2) once you are in directory, your search engine index will increase and ranking too.

We hope you like this idea.

Not all together true IMO. I am listed as no.1 in the Yahoo directory for certain keywords but my site is banned by Yahoo

I wrote to Yahoo and did get a reply in about 4 hours from them.

It appears (although they were not specific of course) that certain practices I was using have got me banned. I do have redress for this.

Look at this thread where I was getting great advice from members of the forum:

Its a nice paid ticket into Yahoo but this doesn't mean that you can't be indexed in it. I submitted one of my website once, got a average number of links, saw it after 2 months and its on fairly nice ranking now (3rd page). I haven't used s.explorer, s.submit or any paid directory submissions.

Although you may think these are all very similar in the results they, they are all in fact quite different. From the stats I have seen as of recent 90%+ of web users will be using the first page of results and nothing else from the 3 big ones. If you are looking to get onto the first page of all 3 you have to bit that bit different in your tactics for each yet .. be sure that those tactics don't spoil the results you are getting at the moment.

Best way to look at it really is ... if you are listed well on Google and one other of the remaining 2 don't worry. It wont make that much difference.

So does anyone know generally what yahoo considers important? I have somehow dropped from #32 to mid 60s on yahoo at the same time the site is #1 on MSN, and #25 on Google. I understand MSN is easy to get listed in but the difference between Google (hardest?) and Yahoo seems strange.

We have had press releases for the last few years and those come up frequently in the SERPS.

    I have done the following:

Submitted sitemap to yahoo (same time as I submitted to Google)
Submitted site rss feed to yahoo and to a few rss directories
    Submitted Press Releases
Submitted to DMOZ but no luck yet
    Added unique page titles
We are in the yahoo directory and have been for awhile (years)
    Created blog with backlinks
    Created pages with-hyphenated-file-names-that-include-keywords
Backlinks with sites in the same business category

Any suggestions of what else I can do?

My experience has been the reverse with Yahoo listing in a few weeks of launch but google taking up to 2 months or more. This has held true for 3 sites I launched this year. As others have said, backlinks are key.

That makes sense. We have 10 backlinks. #1 listing has 350+ :(

The problem is that in a corporate environment, I haven't yet figured out how to generate these backlinks [for free]. I have asked partners to post our link. Most corporate pages that list clients or customers often use logos. How much of a difference will it make to link logos to our site vs. linking keyphrases to our site? I'm assuming it will make a huge difference.

Would adding keywords to the ALT text tag of the linked logo help?

I believe the alt attribute of an image can serve to boost keyword density.

How can ineedhits justify charging people to get listed in Yahoo. Getting listed is not the problem (just fire a good link at it) it's getting traffic from it thats the damn problem.

Yahoo for me is poorer than MSN, even though I'm top spot for some competitive keywords.
