I am new to domains. I was reviewing a list of recently expired domains and came across boswitol.com it has an alexa ranking of 7,081,223 Not sure what alexa ranks sites for but i took that this is good. So I decided that would pick it up. Can someone explain to me what Alexa Ranking is, and how I can improve the site to make it valuable and then I want to resell it. Thank you
An Alexa rank of 7,081,223 means that there are 7,081,222 (7 million!) sites that are more popular than your site. That's not good. Alexa gets its stats by monitoring the browsing of users who have installed the Alexa toolbar. It's better used a comparative tool instead of using the absolute numbers. You best bet if you want to increase value is to build a simple site to generate traffic and get indexed in search engines. Not sure what topic you could build on the name boswitol.

For most sites, Alexa rank doesn't mean much really. Obviously 7 million is no good either. People usually buy domains that had high PR and don't really consider alexa.

For alexa ranking the lower the better. Alexa is based on the volume of traffic. so if you get 1 or 2 visitors a month your alexa ranking will be about 10 million but if your getting 10 million hits then you will be in the top 10k. If you get your site in the top 100k then alexa starts following it more and will start producing additional statistics about your site. google the most visited website online is rated 1. Thank you. I do plan on setting up a website using boswitol.com and developing the domain. I like the fact that I have a starting point. Buying an expired domain with an alexa rank already is something that i figured would be a benefit.
An Alexa ranking just shows an estimate of how much traffic a site gets compared to others. The lower the number, the better the traffic. Since the domain you just brought has 7,000,000+, it means there are 7 million sites out there that get more traffic.
Which means that there is a lot domains that get more traffic. But, compared to the fact that there happens to be way more than 7,000,000 sites on the internet this might make a good starting point.
Be sure to check keyword tools. Look for keywords with the most exact monthly searches. If people are searching for your keyword then its probably a good name. What is boswitol? Sounds like pink stuff in a bottle.
