If they are sending funds to you from a hacked PP id then they most probably won't have access to the account holders Email ID and therefore ask you to send (domain/site/E-book/whatever) it elsewhere.

Great tips and extremely useful too, considering the number of scammers out there (even in DP for that matter!)

I have a problem.... plz help
I sold a a/c(nearly impossible to register on the site now) of a site to a person, he sent me the payment of $20 on my paypal id. Now after 3 days when he has changed all the a/c info he has claimed a refund in the Unauthorized Dispute: section, now my paypal id is showing a negative balance since i withdrew the money. What can i do to intimate the paypal people about the fraud? Plz help

Did the transaction involve a shipping address?

Tell them that you can provide tracking information, and over there say that the payment was for some digital item which was delivered to the buyers primary Email ID. You'll win the dispute (most likely, unless it was really unauthorized).

Great tips indeed, will definitely help some beginners out there not lose their hard earned money. As for the above quote - I would replace the word 'even' with the word 'especially'. I'll elaborate:

I've been selling digital products and accepting payments via PayPal for years and my dispute rate used to be 1 dispute per every 25 transactions, which is pretty decent, considering that I tend to win most disputes. Earlier this year when I started doing business via DP, my dispute rate bumped up to 1 per every 7 (!) transactions! And it's not the quality of the products I sell (I never sell rubbish) but rather the tremendous amount of scammers around here.

I'm writing this just to let you all know that you should indeed take Helvetii's (and other people's) advice very seriously if you're thinking about doing business on DP. And for god's sake - DO NOT keep more money on your PayPal account than you absolutely must have there. Ever. Yeah, each withdrawal costs money but it's far better to pay those fees than to have PayPal decide to close down your account (for whatever reason - they can always find one!), freezing thousands of dollars of your cash.
