Hello! Have an old bidding directory just lying around with PR0 the same as many others, is it safe to say it's over running a bidding directory ? Start promoting it for various reasons feels pretty useless at this point. Anyone in the same position ? Anyone that wants to shed some light on this are welcome.
if you care about the PR much, you can simply give away the site. i notice that a part of bidding directories including mine is just dropped the green bar, but the serps is well safe, it's very important as a web directory.
It's your site. So it all depends on how much you're attached to the site. As for it being a bidding directory with PR 0, if PR is your only concern then may be you should think again before continuing in the directory business Many good directories have PR0 and I mean it! However, even though I did use a couple bidding directories in the past, the whole concept of artificially inflating "link-value" with more money is something I am not fond of.
I am thinking of turning a bid directory I have into a conventional one and ask for a reinclusion. It has been penalised so badly that its not worth much anymore, except for its domain (LLN.org).
I don't think so as i have also one PR2 bidding directory but not getting any paid submissions since long long time DON.
There lies the answer to the OP's question. To me a bidding directory is like an ebay auction listing that never ends, its pointless and unrealistic to expect that people will bid without there being some sort of limit. I considered one back in 2007 but saw the flaw in them.
i never submitted to any bidding directories and never owned one. i agree with pipes that there is fundamental flaws in them and with normal directories being there, bidding ones ought to be dead
Not to be rude but Pipes and Nima are the only ones in the this thread that understand what I meant with my question and the fundamentals of bidding directories. To the others: If I care about PR ?? Absolutely not!! But running a successful bidding directory demands PAGE RANK that's the whole point running one. When google penalized or killed the PR on bidding directories they also killed the bidding directory business. Do you think you sell bidding spots on these sorts of directories NO because site owners looking for bidding directories also look for PR. Now site owners also see the difference between a regular and a bidding directory which means even less sales. This also applies to "strong" bidding directories though they might get sales from site owners that either dont know much about the PR or they see an opportunity getting some traffic instead of the whole pagerank transfer site-to-site. I got what I needed from my question and thanks, my own bidding directory will either be sold as a domain or just put offline.
I wouldn't say they are done. Just definitely not what they used to be. A large amount of these sites are overun with gambling and casino websites who have in the past paid high amounts to be on the first page. This made it harder for others to be able to afford a reasonable link and now most of these sites aren't promoted as much making it difficult to get value for money.
I think the bid for position model was just a fad whose time has past. Not much different than the pixel sites or tag directories.
I think that the search engines have correctly viewed bidding directories simply as a method to "game" the search results.
Yea i have to agree that the impulse to promote on a bidding directory is over.. Ohhh well was fun while it lasted laterz maclolm
