Hi All I have written a guide on upgrading XP to Windows 7 It covers upgrading, backup, Windows Easy Transfer and XP Mode virtual machines. Hope it helps someone. Comments / suggestions etc welcome
One question is Windows 7 really worth the update. If it is than will the software application working on XP work in it??
I think its better fresh install Windows 7 than upgrade. Just format your windows xp, and then install windows 7. Its will avoid some problem with several software if not compatible.
really nice guide mate, you put all the possible effects on your system that may happen if you upgrade from xp to 7 and also nice touch with the Windows 7 upgrade chart. well writen. i already upgraded though but i wish i had read it before i did.
Hey great upgrade guide. I don't foresee needing xp mode too often, but it would be a handy addition. Too bad it's only available with pro and ultimate, I only have premium version.
Is there any option to downgrade from Windows 7 to XP without losing settings and files ? - Mr.President -
Better to upgrading win xp to vista, and then to win7...I think it's possible to upgrade form vista without activating vista .
I Agree Its better to format and than install any windows whenever u do. but for those who have many apps installed up gradation is a option. This Guide is Good , but do read it carefully it need to u backup many files and transferring many files. Thanks for the guide though my frnd needed it.
Thanks! This really comes in handy as I am thinking of upgrading one of my XP system to Windows 7. I will check and see how it goes.
There is slight change in the default partitioning when installing Windows 7. As you might have already noticed on a fresh installation, Windows 7 creates a 100 MB hidden partition for storing certain system files. You will not get this partition when upgrading to Windows 7. Its highly sugested to install Windows 7 fresh if possible.
