Two sites on the same server

I'm planning on developing a new site, and hosting it on the same server as my established one.

Is there anything I should keep in mind when doing off-page SEO for this new site? If I use the same backlink methods I used to market the first site, will this be counter-effective? For example would G penalise me for putting a backlink to both sites in my sig on forums.

Or would I be better off just hosting the new site on a new server all together?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

"would G penalise me for putting a backlink to both sites in my sig on forums" -->> no google will not penalize your site for putting both these links, you can put a third link to google also :) & nothing will happen

So Google will treat both links as different sites even with the same IP address? I thought this would have affected the linkjuice.

    Don't worry,
G don't penalise your site, i think its ok,
sometimes there are thousands of sites under one IP...

    Hi Abstroose,

Yes, Google will treat them as different sites. In a perfect world, you would setup your new site with a completely different host. But honestly, your new site will do just fine on the same server as your other website. Just don't do a lot of linking back an forth.

    Best of luck,

Btw, I would definitely market them (via link building) differently.

What if you use the same link building strategy for both and google decides that it doesn't like that strategy? Plus you're leaving a footprint.

You have to be sneaky and diversify your risk.

Sure, Google will treat them as different sites. The same when you buy hosting. Many host on the one IP.

You can have as many sites as you please hosted on the same server. As long as you aren't using any underhanded tactics to try to get rankings, you'll be fine.

As for the cross linking of sites, it's only natural for you to link to the sites that you own. Google knows this, and so there's no penalty associated with this tactic. Just make sure that you're doing everything right, and staying away from the Black Hat tactics, and you won't have any problems. It's when you start to hide things from Google that they start to penalize you.
