Yes. Why: Your site will already have visitors before it is released. How: 1. Create a splash page with a newsletter that has good information related with the site's niche. 2. Make up some kind of discounts for the first customers (in case you are selling a product).
It's done to create a hype/anticipation for your product. Put a teaser on it and a collection form for names and email and you have an emaillist to announce your going live + you have a list of people interested in what you have to offer. Take a look at the introduction of products like the adsense video's of Michael C and the butterfly thing of Mike Filsame. They have it done this way and seem to be very succesfull at it.
John Reese done it with traffic secrets also I recall. Pre-launching a product will bring a lot of attention & generate a lot more interest in your product, than just releasing it one day out of nowhere.
Yep, put up a bit of info and collect names and emails for those interested. If no one likes the idea, you can change it before going live And if you get tons of interest, it will motivate you to start the site sooner
It's called "buzz marketing" and not enough companies think to do it. The basic goal is to generate interest before anything is released and have an actual "launch." Sure, everyone says they "launch" a website, but most really just "announce" a site. A launch is an event (think about when a nice restaurant or gallery opens - perfect examples), and you need people to know a day and time and make them care enough to check it out right then and there. Hype is better built through PR and not advertising though... you need to come up with some kind of catch that would hook people before they can see anything, get important people in the media or elsewhere interested enough to talk about it through press releases, pitch letters, or samples (depending on your site), and then stick to a solid launch date and/or time. If you did it right, you'll have a large immediate influx of visitors. Think of something you can suddenly make live on your site at launch time to serve as an attraction (and not something people can find someplace else), and you'll better your chances. Jenn
This is exactly what i am doing now at www.adquick.co.uk I have a competition up and running which will be drawn when my website launches. I have a blog and also the ability for users to submit their email address so that they are informed when our website is launched. My website isn't launching until october but at the moment i am getting about 150-300 people to my site every day. I haven't spent anything yet on marketing, all i have done so far is submit my competition to a competition portal site.
Yes just add an opt in so users will know when site is launched. At the same time you will have a newsletter to post a newsletter monthly as an e.g.
