I have written an ebook. I would like to know what is the procedure of getting it copyrighted? Thanks.
Assuming you are in one of the 164 countries that signed onto the Berne Convention (e.g., USA, UK, Canada, India, etc etc) you automatically got the copyright on the ebook just by creating it. In the US, at least, registering the copyright gives you some added benefits you want to sue for copyright infringement. Here is what the US Copyright office says: http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html#register You can find out how to register on the US Copyright office web site: http://www.copyright.gov/ If you aren't in the US, you should check with your country's copyright office.
Thanks for this valuable advice and info... I never knew creation of ebook automatically obtains the copyright also for that same ebook.
It's $35 to copyright your ebook with the copyright office online. It's a quick process and you will receive a certificate in 1-9 months. I received mine in less than two months. http://www.copyright.gov/eco/ - click Electronic Copyright Office where it says login to eCO Good move on your part. Good luck!
Hi, i havent check the link but I believe this is universal? I mean it holds true for all countires ( I am from India). Also, is this foolproof, i.e. do they do a check to verify that the content (submitted by me) is authentic (not duplicated at the first place) and that once you get an approval from them, you can used it in legal matters (if needed). ?
