It could be that your website got picked up somewhere where the traffic wasn't loyal or a niche audience. Thus, giving low quality traffic opposed to high quality targeted traffic. e.g. being picked up on digg, fark, a forum or messageboard where the person is there for one reason only, to check something out, then leave and not brows around or explore. just a thought, it is common.

This is generally due to poor traffic quality, I.e not niche related traffic! For example someone could have posted your site on a social bookmarking site so more traffic comes but the quality of traffic is poor so they dont click your adverts! Hope this helps
