Hello Has anyone ever tried to manually add user groups directly in the database, using the following method? http://docs.joomla.org/Custom_user_groups I can t get it to work , groups are created but assigning modules to user does not work I d like to get this fixed without using any 3rd party extension
I'd advise against any core hacks since this makes upgrading Joomla harder, and because Joomla 1.6 is supposed to introduce the ability to create new user groups. It's better for you to use an extension to do that. You can find some here: http://extensions.joomla.org/index.php?option=com_mtree&task=listcats&cat_id=1782&Itemid=2 There is one called noixACL that I saw mentioned on the Joomla forums that is supposed to allow you to create and manage new user groups though I haven't tried it myself: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/access-&-security/group-access/7010/details Try some of these extensions and see if they work for you. In lieu of creating other groups, until Joomla 1.6 is ready for production sites, you could instead manipulate existing ACL to gain better user control.
tks or the information, most of those extensions are buggy or like noixACL badly documented, i want to do the core hack, even if it s just to understand why this does not work. We re still very far from j 1.6
I was afraid that'd be the case. Most of those ACL extensions are a bit wonky. That said, here is a Joomla Add User Groups hack: http://docs.joomla.org/Custom_user_groups Please pay careful attention to the instruction notes, as the hack applied to a slightly earlier version of Joomla, and the file locations may have changed. Hack doesn't seem too onerous, though. UPDATE: Here is a more current groups hack. This also includes Community Builder, but the core Joomla stuff is listed first: http://www.guylabbe.ca/en/blog/custom-community-builder-groups.html
i know the first one, you ve certainly noticed that s the one i mentionned in the first post, the second one means i ll install cb, just to add 2 groups :-/
Sorry, but you're talking about hacking the core to provide functionality that's not native. There really isn't that much out there documenting what you want to do. Worst case, hire someone at Joomlancers to do the hack for you. Just trying to help you, but if that's not good enough, you can always take the paid route.
just wanted to know if someone got the answer on the top of his head, sure someone got that to work already
