Are the articles submited to Ezinearticles checked via Copyscape
    before being excepted by Ezine?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Ezinearticles is one of the very few directories which makes it very explicit that you can't submit duplicate content.

Not true. You can submit your own content, even if it has been used before. You may have to prove it is actually your content.

This is first point in EZ's editorial guidelines-

"You declare that you are the sole owner and author of the article and own 100% of all copyrights pertaining to it."

How do you think they ascertain your copyright ownership? They email U.S.Copyright office or something.:D Bollocks!! they hardly have time to email free-account members.

They Copyscape ( or whatever dupe filter technology they use) and if multiple versions of the article are found, they presume A) Either you have copied from somewhere, so its someone else's copyright, or, B) Someone else has copied your version, so for you to sort this out first.

If the above happens (i.e. duplicate version found), in both the scenarios its a case of potential copyright dispute, unless all the versions of duplicate content can be traced back to one owner (which is nearly impossible). Simply means EZ WILLNOT want to be involved in a copyright suite by publishing a potential copyright disputable material.

All boils down to what I previously said- No DUPES please!

They have asked me questions about duplicate content before, as long as you are listed as the author... They do not care.

I can give you 1,000's of examples of duplicate content on ezinearticles. It is an industry standard approach to put old content on ezine's website to help with seo.

rewrite your content but manual verification is also required while a machine can never replace humans :)

And would you recommend that to a new article marketer? To not to worry about dupe content submission?

I use ezinearticles for content that I publish on my site. The difference is that I get it accepted by ezine before I post it to my site.

When you publish content that is not unique, chances are they will deny it. They are very picky and really sit their standards high when it comes to articles. When it passes ezine, you know that it's a good article.

Yes!!! They will check not only with copyscape but also grammar. So keep your article unique to get accepted by them.

All articles are checked by Copyscape as well as a private software which Ezine employs

Since it takes a while after submitting to publish articles when you submit them to Ezine, I imagine that they check for duplicate content and of course, plagiarism, before publishing.
