Strange PR Drop?

    Hello,

Till yesterday, the pagerank of my website starruby.in/store was PR 4. Today morning, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the PR drop to 1. From all I researched and read, there hasn't been a PR update yesterday or today. The last one was in end of October if I am correct.

There are a couple of things about the strange drop that confuse me:

First is that all my google backlinks (site:starruby.in/store) seem to have disappeared overnight. Yesterday, they stood at 16. This seems strange.

What is even more strange is that PR tool checkers such are prchecker.info still show the PageRank as PR4 for starruby.in/store

Even more confusing is the fact that my internal store pages within the /store sub-domain still retain their PR (some are PR2, PR3... even more than the main store page) and the main domain starruby.in also retains it's PR3 pagerank.

There was no reason for the PR to drop suddenly in such an unsual manner.

I am thinking whether it is some temporary glitch on Google's part? Anyone else experiencing this problem?

    Regards,
    Harshil

The last PR update was 10/30-10/31 have not seen any changes since then. Occasionally I've seen PR changes between updates but usually they are a result of spammy tactics and are like a "partial ban" or something.

Thanks for your reply. This is what concerns me.. since there has not been a PR update why has my PR dropped suddenly and so strangely. I can't don't think it's a ban because I have done nothing to cause a ban..

    Well, I sort-of figured out what's wrong:

Google has now ranked my pages as follows:

    http://www.starruby.in/store/ - PR1 (with slash)
    http://www.starruby.in/store - PR4 (without slash)

It's strange that google counts both these URLs as distinct pages and there is such a huge difference in PR.

Now I just gotta figure out how to make my store URL appear without the trailing slash so that the PR will be displayed as PR4.

    Any opinions guys?

Well, i don't think it comes under PR updation effect and it may cause of some involvement in bad practices and that's why google penalised. Involvement in buying and selling links ay be cause of this as i have seen same thing with some sites in past.

Search for 301 redirection and htaccess, that's how you should do it, redirecting your PR1 to your PR4 page.

sometimes google tool bar calculates incorrect PR. please close the IE and restart the browser , and check online page rank checker. It should be fine..

Its very strange. Your home page is still PR3 some other inner pages also pr2, pr3 and pr1. I have never experienced with problem like this.

Please update with us whats happening with your site after this.
