if ur using windows just use system restore option and switch back to a date when your pc was stable.

I think your system needs formatting.

it seems your HDD has been damaged or its the failed memory modules.

Restart and login in Safe Mode.
    Then try the proper shutdown.

    Hi There

I cannot beleive some of the stupid comments such "format and reinstall" or "reboot in safe mode".

It is quite clear that your PC is not picking up your HDD on boot so the above methods will never work

Reseat your HDD cables and make sure your HDD is showing up in the BIOS and it is set to boot from that.

    Any questions just ask!

OK find out the disk manufacturer and download the appropriate DOS diagnostics software from their site.

Most are listed on my PC Support Tools page

    Burn to disk and test

Let me know how you get on and any questions just ask!

    Regards

get hold of a WinXP CD that has a system recovery module,

run recovery, either an automatic, or thru command prompt run the command "chkdsk \r", (/ or \ )

if it works, you will get the system back, back up all your data, coz your disk has bad sectors,

if your disk is in warranty get it replaced, i got my seagate disk replaced, (free of charge)

else buy a new one, and you can use this as a slave disk.
