I'm looking for a word press forum plugin that will use the current template format I have. I suck at images and integration so as asked is there any forums word press software that will use my current template?

So far I have found this but I'm not sure about the template issue...

I'm adding the forum here, http://www.preerp.com

WP-Forum is way to go. If you want to marge your current database with forum.

    They have also great support.

It does look really good. I was just about to add a small forum to one of my blogs and I am glad I saw this. Definitely looks like it would be worth a try.

Wait till you see the admin control panel it's amazing!

Also if you haven't noticed the urls in the forums are very SEO friendly!

That was standard! One thing I'm noticing is a consistent but not often error regarding the mysql table and database. Next time I get it I will post it here! If I recall this error is not forums related I think it happened once on my blog's main page.

I like simple forums better too, wp-forums seems to be built based on smf, or the developer couldnt get his own icons:)

I did add a forum to one of my blogs using that plugin today and it seems to work really well. It is cool how it integrates with the WP blog when someone signs up through the forum or through the blog itself the end result is the same. Also all my registered members were automatically added to the forum as members so I sent out some emails to let them know about it.

All your existing members were added to members of the forum automatically?

Yes that is correct. I already had a lot of people who had registered with my blog and when I installed this they were automatically included as members of the forum. VERY cool

i want to install a forum on my site http://techriot.net but i dont want to use something that is going to be very resource and cpu heavy. my host recently installed a script that if i use the resources too much and for too long, it automatically bans my account. so i need to get a plugin that is not very resource heavy, yet still gets the job done.

so the question is: Is simple press better than WP-forums with resource usage? and is it better overall?

    thanks

Simple press has more features while wp-forums has been hit with security concerns in the past.

If you;re running wordpress, you're already running high on resource usage. (On our installs, we're bumping up the allowed memory from 64 megs to 96 megs to get it to run else we get out of memory errors.)

A better solution would be to look at a caching solution to help reduce usage. Something like wp-super-cache.

    Code (markup):
    Hope this helps,

ok, simple press IS FREE! yes, free. all you do is download it to the plugins folder and then you add it thru wordpress, you cant search for it w/i WP tho. :(

oh well, so yes its free, i am still debating whether i should use SimplePress, or whether i should make a subdomain and just use bbPress. However i dont know how much a theme costs.

i have had probs with both wp-forum AND simplepress. but simplepress is more cuztomizable than wpforum. however i also had heard about a forum software called mybb and also bbpress. but i guess mybb is better (if you know how to code) lol

so does anyone have any opinions on mybb or bbpress? and if you do, do you know how to code something like that? if you do, pm me :)

I Started with PhPBB with my blog just alittle bit ago as I am use to that and love it with my other sites, but then I saw wp-forums and thought for my blog it would be best, so I got it running and then ran into simple-press and switched. I am using that now and love it for my blog.

I ran into a few issues with simple press like the editor isn't so great with a fix theme, due to my small theme size as it cuts out the editor, but with simple edits it is fixable or if like me using the Thesis theme it is so easy that I didn't see the solution that was right there and built in. On Simple Press site they offer good support and a quickness with replies. I posted on their forums and it was corrected right away.

I think for a blog that wants a forum to sync with the DB of wordpress and have it match your theme without buying a theme or making alot of code edits simple press is the way to go.

and no they didn't pay me to write this. lol
GL with whatever you choose and take care
