I saw a new member at another forum I mod at post a question about directory submissions. When I looked at the site in question to help him find the answer he needed, something caught my eye that I think is really cool. They listed REJECTED sites I'm not sure what their motivation is for doing this, but I can see some real good applications for this: help others see what is not acceptable; slap the spammers in the face; etc. Anyway, I thought it was cool and thought I'd share it.
found some good company website links in that list BTW iam happy my sites are not listed there good find Amit
I didn't go through the list, but I did notice the list reasons for rejection, some of which merely say "Site submission withdrawn" ... I'd love to see the admin backend of this site; no doubt they've just built a button or drop down for the most common reasons. Reason for rejection: Site submission withdrawn Reason for rejection: Site fails to comply with AUP (Deep link) Reason for rejection: No reason specified Reason for rejection: Site fails to comply with AUP (Mirrored content) Reason for rejection: Site fails to comply with AUP (Scraper and/or no content) Reason for rejection: Site is unreachable at the time of review Reason for rejection: Site fails to comply with AUP (Illegal content and/or drug related) Reason for rejection: Site fails to comply with AUP (Adult site) Reason for rejection: Site submitted to incorrect subcategory This probably generates a nice "in your face" reject email too
Pretty nice, but it will become a long and big (over 500k in size) list of spam page in the long run. If I was the admin, I would not waste resources on this. Ban them once and just forget it.
Normally I use rejections material to fill my “Really bad Sites†category. w529.net/World/really-bad-sites/ Strangely SPAM as really dropping since I implemented this
LOL. By listing the rejected sites, they aren't really rejecting them are they? If I did this my rejected sites page would be 4x bigger than my directory
Only thing I would suggest is nofollowing all these "rejected sites" since that first directory listed them as normal. By the way I have suggestions for categories: * Adsense, Adsense, & More Adsense * Penis Pills * Crap Ring Tone Sites * Triple Hyphenated Dot Info Domains * Mesothelioma * Gambling Affiliates * Amazon Affiliates * Jewelry Affiliates etc, etc, etc... I think this could be fun!
That in itself could be fun ... coming up with parody categories for the spammers. That'd make a fun thread in and of itself PortProphecy Of course, it would need a cool graphic or two to truly be identified with:
roflol...nice one, I agree with Sonic Reducer there, If I make a list of rejected sites, that will be bigger than my directory,
I'm sure that isn't all their rejects, just the most recent. I like this feature too, it gives you a good idea of what it takes to get in. I notice a few "no reason specified" rejects. I bet there are a lot of sites that fail to get listed for multiple reasons. I wonder, though: does giving the reasons discourage anyone at all from resubmitting obviously unlistable sites?
I agree, it's probably purged periodically. I'd think it sends a message to the submitters ... clean up or stay away; a little free education so to speak
Yes, I'm almost tempted to implement something similar. But I'm afraid it's probably too much preaching to the converted: the kind of people who bother to seek out the directory submission guidelines, for example. So I won't bother.
Another great idea is include the spammer's EMAIL ADDRESS in the listing so other spammers may pick them up.
I don't know, I think you can just reject the site and thats it, what if one of your sites is listed, reason who know what they will come up with.
I have seen other directories do this many years ago. What most did was list sites that violated specific rules. This was sort of an example of what not to do. It's wasn't a huge list. Probably 100 sites showing different problems. I also saw one site use a rejected page as a notice. Webmasters were not emailed (to reduce resources used I guess). Instead, you could come back to the site and check on your own.
