I doubt your theory is correct
Whenever i searched for my sites, there i could find alexa linking to my site from the topmost link in the search results page, that link is already live without me giving any backlink to alexa, also it is dofollow

@GoodPoster Yeah I know a lot of people who do that. But to be quite honest I am not caught up on ranking well in alexa

Works for a lot of other sites, some sites even require you to just search for your webpage even if it doesn't exist in their system.

Yes it worked for ME. The way you can verify this is just run a search on Google for graphic seo

or copy and paste this into your url bar:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=graphic+seo&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

it is the 7th listing down

I did that already in a past for different purposes. In fact you get 2 backlinks.
Here is what I got for my website:
alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/montreallisting.ca
alexa.com/siteinfo/montreallisting.ca
