Recently I bought VBulletin CMS 4.0 on pre-sale for my forum webcosmoForums.com. The new VB CMS seem to have lot of cool features like url rewriting, blogs, CMS etc etc. What you guys think of the new VB 4.0?
I'm pretty excited to try it out. I was due for a renewal soon anyway so I really didn't spend much extra money. I sure like the feature list. Not sure how much I am going to use the blog or anything, but at least I have the choice.
I saw your site. I think you should change style because it isn't clear (dark), use ADS plugin under first post and buy a dedicated server ^.^
I just checked, they seem to have the Beta version public now. Although I would not dare to set it on the site yet, until it gets stable
I pre-ordered it and plan to use it on a pretty decent domain name I've been holding on to. Looking forward to it - although I don't know WHEN it's coming out...anyone know when beta is over?
Seriously I am itching to play with Beta now live, although I know not a good idea. Some people I heard got all their data deleted when they used it on a live site, real scary. According their website, they are expecting the Gold version be public end of the year.
I just installed it on a new site ... struggling a bit to understand how to change format/layout of home page of CMS .... apart from that ...looking good.
I don't like it. It isn't much of an improvement, IMO. I wrote my thoughts on it here: What I don't like about vBulletin 4 I plan to either stick with vB 3.8 or switch to IP.Board.
I consider that as a bullshit describe there, You can't stick to 3.8.x version the interface do not convey the modern forum base, Plus IP.Board cannot be compared even with vBulletin.
You're telling me that I'm full of bullshit when you are running a beta release in a live environment? LOL First of all, look how many enormous and successful forums are still on older versions of vBulletin, including 2.x and 3.5 or 3.6. There are plenty of them. There is no problem with sticking to 3.8. There is no way in hell I'm using vB 4.x unless they miraculously change it by the time its gold release.... which obviously will not happen. That's your opinion. Since you are clearly out of the loop, I take it with a grain of salt. I recommend other readers do the same. vBulletin is slowly dwindling from its position as the market leader. IPB 3 was a revolutionary release, and they are actually productive -- something vBulletin hasn't been since 3.6. No release since then has brought anything significant to the platform.
There aren't much forums that are 'enormous or successful' on version 2.x, Mostly are dead ones or some actives one government forums. I agree many of them are running on 3.x, (75% owners upgraded to the version 3.x as it was released or after some years) So definitely wouldn't you expect same results over the new version 4.x(when reaches on stable version) The article you linked was basically just a madeup thing without reviewing proper features of CMS and forum. IP.B still can't compete 'revolutionary release' with hard encoding of boring IonCube, Which makes it quite difficult for the Technical worker of the site to work on, I respect your feelings, I just think the article is 'rubbish'.
Well you just know everything don't you? I think not, because once again, you are wrong. You're coming up with the lamest excuses imaginable. What an oxymoron statement. The "article", as you call it, is my opinion. If you think my opinion is rubbish, then no, you do not "respect my feelings".
I installed the beta 4.0 the other night for a client I like that the devs added a few pages in the CMS so we could see how those all work. I'm still looking forward to playing around with 4.0 and so are my clients, had one email me today wanting to go live with 4.0 today!..lol I don't know if I would do that yet, but 4.0 is a lot nicer then the 3.x versions. I also have an IPB forum, it's nice as well. I wish we could merge the best features of both and have a super forum script
I plan on installing it, I just hope I can make my forum look a bit less like a landing page and more like a front for a COMMUNITY.
