Can a .ORG be ranked just as good as .COM?

.com is taken, so im going for a .ORG and getting a random .COM for print material.

    your thoughts?

Yes it can. I've had .org and .net sites out rank .com sites.

Just make sure before you buy the domain that there is no copyright or trademark clause to get you in trouble.

The domain tld doesnt matter. As has been said, as long as there is no intellectual proprety infringement like trademark copyright or patent etc. that word phrase is safe to use for .org also. Even for .us also.

The most important thing is the quality of your backlinks. The TLD doesn't matter.

.org stands for organization and this is one very reason why generally people would think the website to be a recognized and presume the site to be legit in terms of everything, you can find every charity related organization having a website on .org tld and generally .org is considered as a excellent tld in search engine rankings.

.net has no special effects in search engine rankings nor any other weightage in terms of branding etc, but its just another excellent replacement to .com tld whenever its not available.

Yes it can. I have several .us domains that are outranking .com for competitive keywords.

Domain extensions have no special value in terms of SEO unless they are cc-TLDs and that is geared towards geo-targeting.

In the eyes of Google I think they are the same and will be ranked the same. I've never read any article that the domain extensions are part of the algorithm. Although, .com is really popular and well known.

I think, its all about the efforts you make on the domain popularity which makes it having good positioning in SEs.

Now, are you asking about when the keyword is in the domain? As I find that keyword domains with .com,.net, and .org do rank on first page with little effort for the exact keyword. However, I have not found the same effect with .info and .us sites. But if its regardless of the domain with the exact keyword, then it will just come down to your efforts.

Matt Cutts once said, that Google doesn't give any priority to specific extensions. They are all same in Google eyes.

AFAIK, domain tld's shouldn't make any difference in search rankings. A .org can very well rank in the top 10 results just like a .com or any other tld's.

TLD's don't affect search engine ranking. Content and links are still the top 2 that search engines look at. Dot Com websites have no special attention in the eyes of search engines.

yeap... to have google prefers one tld over others is plain unscientific.... and a great example would be wikipedia.org....

.org can easily rank higher then a .com or .net , but i think so if you are targeting a particular country or a state a cctld will be given more importance then a .com or .org in the google . cctld suppose i have xyz .co.uk
will be given a little more importance in google.co.uk , i think so any other expect seo guy can please give us more info on this ??

    thanks

according to one of the internet marketing seminar i attended, the speaker was mentioning that if we can't get .com, it is still a good idea to get .org since .org seem to rank better than .com in Google. But he say that the only reason why we should still stick to .com is because everyone is more familiar with .com than .org. So there will not be a situation when someone wanted to visit your .org site but ended up in the .com version (which is another person site).

The .org tld is more trusted for that reason.

I've just bought a couple of .org domains and one is already outranking the .com
