Alright, so I was offered a job from a friend that owns a clothing company. He asked me to advertise and sell shirt online. But I don't have any idea on how to do so. I was wondering what are some good ways to sell and advertise online?

    Start off with Adwords.

Then work super hard on some long tail keywords for the SERP's

    "ur"?

    "4"?

    "clot"?

    Yeah, contact him immediately!

Take pictures, or grab pictures off the Internet of your friend's most sold shirts, and use them in ads. Yes, you are going to have to advertise if you want to REALLY move the products.

Make your ads snazzy, catchy, hip, and advertise them in sites you think its visitors may click on.

For example, if you have shirts college students may like, advertise the shit out of them at such sites as collegehumor.com.

Don't forget single moms who are on a budget! Check out such sites they go to.

Before doing so, though, get both your ads and the site critiqued.

No amount of advertising will work if one or both are crap.

In a nutshell, that is it.

Of course it depends on your theme, but some good old fashioned MySpace comment spamming seems like a great way to go. You could also sell some on eBay and link the auction listing back to your site (illegal but worth the risk) and mention you can get the shirt cheaper there.

You have made a good start but doing some research on forums. Keep doing this, keep reading and reading about what other people have been doing. Pose as a marketing student or something and contact a local competitor (make sure they are doing well) , ask them for some information as to how they carry out their marketing/advertising activities. Its worth a try.

I would only recommend taking the next step into online marketing once you know exactly what you're doing and have a plan in place. In the mean time you can advertise locally, handouts and what not, sponsor some small events etc.

You NEED to create some visual appeal, so like PhillipR suggested, take some clever, snazzy pictures of your products and direct them to your target market. Advertisements on sites SIMILAR to collegehumor would be great, CollegeHumor is a big company, I doubt your budget is big enough to afford advertisng on their website.

Also do you have an identity? Logo etc? Do you have a website? these are the foundations for online marketing.

    Good luck!

    Hello,
You can use Adwords or Facebook Ads, also show your facebook's friends about the tshirt, use a signature there, and here, etc, write articles about clothes, fashion and submit them on article directories, also you can use Yahoo, or msn to advertise :)

As always the previous posts are all offering great advice. Please also consider off page SEO. Once you get some "snazzy" photos and logo you can try your hand at submitting articles to free directories. You or your friend could write some articles about fashion trends, the longevity of T-shirts in popular culture blah, blah, blah. Submitt your articles to sites like Squidoo and Ezine in the Fashion categories and get the link to your website out there as often as possible. Suidoo offers groups, join a fashion group to get more buzz going about your product. Create a Fan page on Facebook too... I am a big fan of free advertising these are my most favorite off page tricks. Good luck to you.

Sell them on eBay and/or Amazon.

And learn PPC and use that method to promote your site (which would have pics, reviews, presentation of the clothing on it, of course).

What kind of shirts are they? Winter/cold weather shirts, summer, all season, sports,,,?

Go through youtube and find some people in your targeted niche. Give them a free sample if they agree to post a review video. Have them mention the website name and put your logo in the video.

When doing youtube reviews you want to look for publishers that have lots of subscribers and that post videos on a regular basis.

If you can connect with the right people, you can get a lot of free advertising for the cost of a couple of items.
