Backup your directory!

    Hi all,

After I lost almost my data in one of my directories I said to myself no more! The hosting couldn't retrieve a recent backup and I ended up with 6 month data loss!

It is also created a mess because users wanted refund and I didn't know who pay and so on...

so I developed a service that backup MySQL database remotely and store it on different server than my directories.

I am strongly recommend you to backup your db at least once a week. And if you don't want to deal with it, let our script do it for you.

We have daily mysql backup stored in our server, thus no tension. :) Though I will make some changes soon, thanks for this post and the above poster for the url.

Yeah its so important to backup, i once had a little problem at my hosting where one of their shared servers that i was on had a problem that resulted in them only being able to restore everything to about 2 days close to that day, fortunately i had taken a backup each night so was able to deal with that.

One very important point to remember is that you should always keep your backup outside the server.

I learned years ago to keep receipts for every payment made. Don't rely solely on payment information saved to the database. Save paypal notifications sent to your email and then, if you suffer a serious crash, you at least have receipts with who paid and the URLs submitted.

One should keep backup out of the server on daily basis,
One should not rely on the hosting companies because they can never provide you with 100 % backup.

it is hard to get 100% backup because you can never know if the internet connection was down during the backup, so it is better to have at least 2 options

Yes, they charge for the last script but the older ones you can use them without any problem for free; also Gmail is free and store 7GB, enough for years Mysql Backups. :D

Every SERIOUS hosting provider keeps daily a backup from your full account off-line. :p

Neither a hosting company nor you can have a 100% clean backup if you don't ran this each second and in this last case this bring the server down regularity.

Thank you to the OP for sharing his useful service. I recently experienced a HDD failure for a directory of mine, fortunately only one listing was lost, which was easily restored.

@msolution Would like to have that script very badly :)

just curious, how many snapshots do you keep? if only the latest what if you the db gets erased and you end up backing up an empty db and overwrite the older backup.
In the footer, it says Websitesback.com which should be websitesbackup.com I guess.
Also you can't call twice a day, hourly.
