Today I received an email regarding one of my sites. Here is what it said: "Hello, Would you consider placing a promotional link on your page: http:/MYSITEHERE. My budget isn't enormous, but I am hoping there is a reasonable price we could arrange since it's just a tiny piece of screen real estate I'm interested in. Please let me know if you're open to this, and if not I appreciate your time and wish you the best of luck with your site. Thank You!" I am relatively new to running websites and this is my first email of this kind. Questions are: - How much should I charge for something like this? - Is it worth it if the site I'm linking to isn't of great quality? - Is there anything else I should be aware of or look out for? Any feedback is appreciated and hopefully this is in the right forum.
Charge what you think the space is worth. I also take into account the advertiser. If the very related I will usually charge a bit more because the traffic is very targetted.
Thanks, the email didn't have the link to the site they are asking me to link to so I requested that. From what they say it sounds very related but we'll see what they provide. Do you guys use CPM to determine what to charge? For example, if my CPM was $3 and I had 10000 visitors/mth would $30 (10000/1000 x 3) be a good way to estimate that?
For a text link ad, he's probably more interested in the SEO benifit he would gain from a link on your homepage. So the PR and number of outbound links would be more of a driving factor. If it's the site in your profile, at PR3 with 400k alexa and minimal backlinks, I'd set the price at about $10 per month. You could probably get more than that, but if he's shopping prices at all, he can do better elsewhere.
