I started ~ right before T-giving last year I've spent $$......*FOOLISH!!!!!!!!!!! *if only b/c there are so many cheaters now and zyngDUH is either incompetent or indifferent to do anything about it.

Yeah, thank you for that. Just give it a little taste. You can always quit if you don't like it. (insert diabolical laugh here...) Seriously, not only did you get me into the game, but you got me into the family. I have met some seriously cool people because of the game.
Why? The more people you have in your mafia, the less people there are that you can attack. Once you have enough of the other weapons that the Limited Edition Loots are no longer valuable, what would be the point of adding more people to your mafia? I have 5k+ and haven't really added more (unless it's someone that I "know") in a long time. Come to the dark side. We have cookies.
I love cookies! NOT only that but since you can only help 25 people per day per city....REALLY you don't need anything over 501 people in your mafia. However, larger mafias CAN help you win wars faster. My avg war lasts about 17seconds (no lie). I think < 5K is just about right. HOWEVER II, zyngDUH's devs are so inept...anything over 1K in your mafia and certain aspects make it almost impossible to accomplish, like straight gifting (not from WL). I had 8010 max, down to 5K but now pushing 6k once again
Actually since mafia wars removed the properties attacking option it seems people are just playing to build up and not for fighting
