Anyone still using vBSEO for vBulletin?

Discussion in 'vBulletin' started by Pixelrage, Oct 16, 2009.

I've literally just purchased this about 3 weeks ago - now I feel extreme buyer's remorse because the new version of vBulletin just came out, and it has SEO capabilities.

Is vBSEO basically screwed at this point? Anyone else going through this? :(

It’s not known what vBulletin SEO feature will be like, I use vBSEO and it does a great job. Only time will tell if vBSEO is no longer needed.

    Thanks Brian

The new vBulletin 4.0 features aren't going to even make a dent in what you can achieve with vBSEO ;)

VBSEO offers certain features that vb 4 is not going to touch. If you are just after search engine friendly URLs, then yea, maybe vb4 is all you need.

But then there is the sitemap, and in my opinion, that is more important then rewriten friendly URLs. Then there is the anchor text that you can give certain words,,,, there is a lot to vbseo.

This is what the new vB has in regard to SEO -

Not sure how similar/different they'll be to vBSEO...maybe I'll just wait a little while before I consider selling my license

1 - It's safe to assume that vBSEO does these things much better than vBulletin default. vBSEO specializes in SEO while vBulletin is implementing it just to keep up.

2 - vBSEO still does much more "behind-the-scenes", and vBulletin default will never compare to what vBSEO can achieve.

Thanks - I'm hoping they'll upgrade it to fit the new version of vB. Looks like they'll have a lot of work to do this time around.

Would current vBSEO users (expired license) be forced to buy a new license, when they move to vBulletin 4.0?

    not exactly

Here is a comparison of what vBulletin 4.0 will have, and vBSEO 3.5
To give you an idea of what vbulletin 4.0 will cover

Provided your license doesn't expire before vBSEO 3.5 is released, then no, you will not have to pay to have access. They aren't changing their licensing like vBulletin is.

For the price of free it's missing very little in my eyes compared to vbseo. :D

Agreed... the vast majority of the items on that comparison are completely pointless imo... "Custom 404 Page Support", "Image dimensions", etc... "Invert Archive Thread Display Order" wtf? lol Would be more valuable if it "Removed Archive" completely. lol

And other stuff is useful, but if you aren't already doing it without vBSEO, well... then you are just retarded... "Google Analytics Integration", "Google Adsense targeting tags", "Log Search Engine Spiders",

There was never ever a compelling reason to use vBSEO. Never used on any of my forums.

You have some valid points there, although IMO it's nice to have a product to take care of everyone all in one panel.
I feel vbseo also offers greater customization for the URL's spread across the site.
If you are doing great without vbseo, by all means keep it, but if have some cash to invest and could use help in the rankings, I think it's a good investment.

I use it on my Web Hosting Forums and find it's doing pretty well. I could probably of done all the SEO stuff without it, but I bought the license dirt cheap with the vBulletin license so it was like getting it free.

If your on 3.x or below i encourage you to use it. However if your on 4.0 i suggest going with the one included in its default package as i would love to see this feature being developed by the vB team and the more people using it and reporting bugs or suggestions it can be a "full" seo bundle as vBseo claims it's not in no time. 1600 human hours of work in vBseo should equivalent at least 2 upgrades 4.1 -> 4.2 for the mighty vB team :p (Just an opinion)

vBSEO has been doing this for a few years as their only product, vBulletin has been messing with SEO for a few months as an addition to their already going flagship. It's going to take some time before you should even think of comparing vBSEO to the new vBulletin SEO options.
