Use Google Keyword suggestion tool... or go to your competition and use semrush.com and target the keywords that they are using. Don't pick hard keywords that have a lot of traffic to them. Pick smaller keywords that you can easily dominate... then move up to the big keywords

What is your site called? If you have a site based on selling paper clips you would want to save your links with the anchor text of "cheap paper clips" or something. Go to google and start typing what you think people would type to find your site. The auto-suggestion is a big help but give Googles external keyword tool a go.

Wordtracker is another option - type in your word and it not only shows you how many searches but will give you other keyword options and how many searches they get as well.

Analyze your competition. This should give you a pretty good idea of what keywords you should be targeting.

The competition is always a help. Get some software (like link diagnosis - free!), and see a value attributed to each KW.

analyze your website first and then choose keywords as per your website products or services.you can use online tools also like google adwords , wordtracker etc. but i suggest you to choose keywords as user point of view.

If using Firefox right click on your competitors page and scroll down to view source code. This will usually allow you to see their keywords. It might help.

step 1, go to google adwords, find the monthly search volume for the specific keyword.
step 2, go to google search, type your desired keyword with " ", to find out the competing web page.
step 3, compare the search volume result with the number of competing web page. if the adword search volume is high but the competing web page is not so competitive, then this should be the right keyword for us to target. :)
