Does Blogspot.com have a bad reputation?

Discussion in 'Blogging' started by billybw, Oct 28, 2009.

Someone told me that so many thousands of spammers have used blogspot.com to create phony free blogs for spamming purposes, that the search engines automatically devalue any links from free blogspot.com blogs. Does anyone know anything about this?
    Thank you

wow..that's a new info for me. But hopefully google won't devalue any links from blogspot.com blogs
i think google will devalue any links from any sites which is linking to bad neighborhood.
that's why comment moderation is an important thing.

There are quite a few fantastic blogspot blogs, but I guess the best migrated to their own domains. At present blogspot really need to clean up its acts. Nearly all the blogs I had seen are spammy. I wonder if it will go the way of Geocities........

it doesn't surprise me, but as far as I know, blogspot (aka blogger) is owned by Google, so it doesn't make sense at least for the google search engine, to devalue the blogspot blogs.

Blogspot is so accessible and easy to use that it is bound to attract spammers. I've seen some very successful blogspot blogs, though. You can't say the majority is spam blogs, not at all! I bet Google has an algorithm to differentiate the spam blogs from the real deal.

Even though the amount of spam blogs may be on the rise, I think blogspot does a good job of deleting the spam sites.

If you want to keep blogspot clean, there is a report blog feature of blog spot. If you find a spam blog, you can report it and the page will be reviewed.

The case of spam blogs is same with wordpress as well, but blogspot is little easy to game, hence the bad reputation. But for your information no, not every link from blogspot are devalued.

Thousands? More like millions. I remember a quote of like 70something % of the sites on blogger/blogspot are splogs.

Doubt it. Considering Blogger is owned by Google, I don;t see themselves shooting themselves in the foot.

I know a few cases of hackering blogspot's blogs. If your blog is of a very competitive subject (like ringtones or weight loss medicine, for example) it may be hacked and removed. Competition - what else can be said?

To think that Google would devalue links from their own blogging platform is ridiculous.

Just to remind you, Blogger is the only blogging platform on the web that makes the Alexa top 10.

Cannot say that google will devalue links owned on their platform. They should have something already to take care of spam blogs.
