Ok, Ive been wanting to be able to edit some of "My" posts and I couldnt dont matter now tho. But I was thinking, When will digitalpoint be thinking about this? Has there been a subject like this before? It would be very cool if this was taken care of. If not Oh well. Just thought it would be a good idea, I dont know Digitalpoint may have it there for a reason.
Well coorectly what do u want to ask? is it a question related to Edit Posts? Be clear with the question please or someone else please explain the question. BTW thanks smyrl for solving it
The edit post feature is available for 8 hours after the post is made. After that period a member can not edit only a mod. Note the edit post button in the lower right hand corner of one of your posts. You can use this feature to delete a post if you accidentally double post. Members can not delete a thread. Be very careful what you say in a post or thread. If you do not want someone to see your post or remarks, censure yourself.
No, editing beyond the time you are now allowed to edit will only cause confusion. Imagine a sales thread where someone offers www.business.net - someone bids $50,000 and pays. Seller goes back and changes it to www.buzinezz.net and denies all claims he edited it. That's just one quick and extreme scenario. People should think before they post, not after. You type something for the world to see, forever. Bear that in mind.
Ok, well inside of Vbulletin, you can easily, change the the permissions for that, to where its for the buy sell or trade. But for the other things, like Programming, General Chat, etc. That is what I am talking about. so keep the buy sell or trade, i just would rather be able to edit my posts, for the other forums
You still get the same problems. When a member leaves DP, they'd wipe all their posts to garbage. Spammers would insert links in old post so they avoid scrutinizing when the thread is active still. Politics & Religion would become a war. It just doesn't work.
The present is the best. Now leave this topic. There are hundreds of reasons for not applying that one. Two things mainly said by TOPS, Spamming Politics and religion - Many members change their posts and begin Wars.
How about... Instead of editing, adding on to post. I had a topic to which I wanted to add a bunch of options for link sales/exchange and wanted to add to OP but couldnt. I think a Add feature would be good, so that you can keep updating but not changing old stuff.
Dont think so it would be something useful. If the updates are so important, no one stops u to do it in a new post.
How often do you read the sixth post in a Link Sales thread? Say I have an OP saying: Selling Links for $5 a link 10 people buy so I want to raise price So now I post $7 per link. I guarantee I will get tons of requests for $5 links when they cost $7 now. With an Add feature, you can just Add on "UPDATE: Links now $7" and everyone will see it. Or vice versa, links cost $7, people come, see its too much and leave when in reality, 5 posts down, you lowered the cost.
This idea is not at all good! If you are selling a link at 5$ and then change it to 7$ after the slots are finished, i would prefer to open a new thread or else an update in my old thread would ruin my sales. The new buyers will think that the seller is a bit Greedy. Just my thinking, it is not good.......... Lets see what the MODS tell.
It doesnt have to be that you ran out of slots. Maybe your traffic increased. Or you are now offering banner ads instead.
So you are recommending that I create a new thread each time my pricing changes? I feel like that would be spamming.
So u think u would be changing your prices for every sale of yours.... What a crap thinking though. You are selling, not spamming or advertising. Ok tell me, how many times would u change the prices for the same site?
No, ive just posted stuff that ive regretted before :-P like posted a link it got indexed, and i got emailed lol and almost sued.
As I said before, traffic changes all the time. Maybe I redid the site (I do it every once in a while) New slot appeared (old advertiser stopped paying and a new most expensive/cheaper slot is available) And how about a great way for others to keep track of how many slots you have left? Say in the beginning you say you have 10 slot available. Now the person needs to scan through all those post to see how many are left. With the add on feature, the OP can just say, this much left, this much left. But enough of the positives. What are the negatives? What will anyone lose from having an option to add onto their original post?
When i normally reply that their links are up, i also mention how many slots are still available. Now u are dragging things to a different way. You do it once in a while, not everybody. It is waste of arguing. The admin can not change any function only for the sake of 1 member in a forum which has more than 30,000 members. Many wont agree with your idea. Let Shawn come and solve this.
