    Dear Friend,

I am building an engineering website. So I want to attach some engineering project pictures in it which I will take from some engineering books and websites.

My question is that If I copy that project pictures from engineering website or books and provide the name of original source below of that project pictures for example book name or website name so is it ok to save from copywrite issues?

    Thanks in advance

You should be cautious while scanning and placing the images from books or else placing the images taken from other websites.

That's a good notion to place the original source link below the image and state that the image is protected by copyrights in your legible section.

I would advice you to contact the author of the book and request him to permit you to use the images. You can place the name or else his/her website name under the image there by increasing his reputation too.

And keep this kind of contact mails with the authors safe and secure.

You can also look into Google Images.

Like teamnirvana said, ask for permission first.

But if you don't get a reply back, consider using them anyway, but also give credit.

Then again, maybe they took the pictures from another site too, so....

For this very reason, I myself don't give credit.

Many times who knows who owns what.

If I take project pictures from 25 to 30 years old books and not provide reference or not contact to author then?

    Is it ok?

Well still put a credit to the book and author.

No, it is not okay, unless the book you are coping from is from before 1923. If you are asking a legal question, you may not copy material you do not have rights to.

I have no idea why people who do not know what they are talking about give you the opposite advice when it is clearly wrong.

If you don't know the owner, or don't get a reply back, don't use it unless you want to risk get sued for infringement or having a DMCA filed against your US host or google (which means your site and or page gets removed). Google images are not allowed to be used without express permission from the copyright holder (owner). Giving credit does NOT grant permission unless the copyright holder has you granted usage rights with that condition.

Google images has even been successfully sued for displaying low-res thumbnails.

    Hi!
Even so..I would not use someone else's pictures. Create your own or find what you need at sites that charge a fee for their use. i would never use anyone else's pictures. Period.

Wow. What unbelievably stupid and irresponsible advice.

So, if I want to borrow some cars I see in a parking lot, I should leave a note for the owners, and if I "don't get a reply back, consider using them anyway." Silence is acceptance, right?

Please provide a link to a law which states that copyright infringement is illegal and actionable, unless the copyright owner does not respond to people wanting to use the copyrighted material. I would love to read it.
