Does the free blogs services get PR power from the main domain?

Often i see blogs at blogger or other big blog services that have quite high PR.
So does the sub-domain gets PR juice from the main domain (which is often 9 or so for the big blog services)?

With other words, isnt it sometimes better (PR and SEO wise) to have blog there instead of your own domain and hosting. (if you dont care that you have zero control that way :> )

You'll get some backlinks to your website from an outside blogging service but you want YOUR site to reap the benefits - not blogger. I say the blog on your domain will do you way more good. I guess you could have both as well as other external high PR sites like squidoo lenses etc.

no they dont get any link or PR benefit from the main domain. you need to work on your link building just as a site on your own domain

As being a subdomain they don't but considering that they always have a link back to the main site, they get juice that way.

No, it doesn't help your PageRank. However, I do notice Google places a Blogspot blog on the first page for not too competitive keywords.

    Yes, that's what i meant.
I didnt expect PR boost just because it's sub-domain of a high pr domain.

How do they usually and depending on what, choose the blogs to link to from the main site?

No! As a user, you have the whole authorization to promote it and to get a "PR" without the help of the main domain. So all you need to do is to update and wait if you have a possibility to have a PR and it all depends on you.
