webmaster tools problem SERP

I have webmaster tools installed on a couple of sites I have
One site I have which is a CCTLD (ireland were i am based)
Its says its ranking 8 for a certain key terms
However when I click to check it,
It isnt even in the top 50 (i stopped checking then)
Why is this

Could it be ranking in the usa
The keyword it says I rank for I would consider a high prized one that many would love to have. Although I am not aiming for it

 

have you checked country specific rankings in google webmaster tool ? i think u have seen rankings of .com (US) in your google webmaster tool.

do one thing install Google Global firefox addon and try to search your keywords with the help of that addon. you will get result.

 

the gwt data update not fast enough

 

In Google Web MAster Tools, Google gives you the average Rank for let's say 7 days or month.

 

it really works..

 

It is surprising to me. how webmaster tools can give you wrong information?

 

Also one My site Keyword position on the 6 place in .com. and Google webmaster tool display the 20 place. webmaster tools take some time to updating the data.

 

Check the URL of the opened page..
If its something like http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en then its Google Ireland
If its something like http://www.google.com/search?hl=en, then its the USA list.

 

Google don't give you wrong info, As your website rank in different different in different parts of world so Google give you a average of that ranking. So it doesn't mean that Google is give you wrong info.

 

It says it ranks 8th in google.ie (ireland) but when I check it isnt there
Another serp checker I have doesnt even place it in the top 300

I dont know
