Willy, the problem with this subforum is it's very biased. Smart people, atheists and progressives get a lot of anon neg rep for no reason other than that they have differing opinions. Some here pout at the fact that there's diversity of views, I cherish them. Good content gets negged, it means you're challenging someone's beliefs that they likely formed from their parents. Without people from across the spectrum, this would be a lame forum - keep posting, there's bound to be others like myself that appreciate valuable content to balance the reds.
Yes, we all get negative anon rep. Oh well. I think it is funny when I neg rep someone for useless post or one that is attacking a member, the person I rep usually reps me right back with more drivel and it will cost them twice -1. Jeremy is right about crying about rep. You will just get more neg reps.
Frankly, if it is anonymous, and it is on an entirely different thread, and it is accompanied by a useless comment, then it is nothing but cowardice. I will grant you though that cowardice being displayed by some of the more hawkish members of the forum is funny to observe. FWIW, an observation is not whining. Cockroaches hide in the darkness, and scurry away from the light. Turning on the light is hardly whining. I rather take pride in the bad rep points I get, knowing (or sometimes suspecting) their source. It is funny how often commenting on them ends up leading to the identity of the gift giver.
Are you still crying about that. Come off it. You are going to get a hail storm of hate rep if you keep whining. Can we please try and get back on topic?
held on to 50% but negatives went up another 2% points... so it's hard to be too pleased with that. I am very happy about NY-23 though, I'm hopeful for more of that kind of teabaggery nonsense in 2010 and 2012... it could be exactly what Obama needs to get real reform moving.
I'm ecstatic. Kinda inconsequential considering the current mandate, e.g. the fact that every other contested race, from Governor, Mayor, LT. Governor, Attorney General on down were all won by Republicans. Kinda says something about the current state of affair in Washington. Will be interesting to see what happens one year from now.
In Obama's defense - Presidents usually don't do much their very first year. The first year of a new Presidency is a learning year. The U.S. government, including the Executive Branch, is a bloated bureaucracy and it usually takes 18 months to learn how things get done. Former V.P.'s usually have an advantage, but even V.P.'s have a lot to learn when they first step into the Oval. Obama's biggest problem seems to be Pelosi. She's a power-hungry mess. For example, in light of the scandals surrounding him, even Democrats are calling for Charlie Rangle's removal as chair of the very powerful Ways and Means Committee. Keep in mind that the Ways and Means Committee is one of the most powerful committees in Congress. It controls most of the money that flows through Washington. But the back story is that Rangle is allied with Pelosi, and most of the rest of the senior Democratic leadership in the House are allies to Obama. If Pelosi removes her ally Rangle, she will be forced to fill it with an Obama ally.
Corwin, you kinda kit the proverbial nail on the head when you said "Pelosi". Barrackys not even in chargey!
Nothing new. Geargy Porgy showed little signs of being in charge either - in spite of his claims to be "The Dicider." The real power of the Bush patch is still spewing his tripe about...
That's because, in a Republic, the Speaker of the House has more power over domestic issues than the President. Notice how the economy started dropping once Pelosi became Speaker in the 2006 election?
So "hawkish" members are cowards and cockroaches, and you wanted to talk to me about divisive labeling for saying Republicans are not against regulation? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Hey Willy, right now, I'm going to go negative rep you for three reasons: 1) To show you I didnt neg rep you the first time (I may have only handed out only two rep points of any kind since my beginning on this forum) 2) To demonstrate that not all who negative rep you are "Cowards" and "Cockroahces". 3) Because your story line is filled with hypocrisy. Quit crying about labels while applying extremely negative labels to people who disagree with you. When you read Obama's approval charts, you will find that kind of reasoning built into those numbers. You'll recognize my neg rep because it will have the message, "Death solves all problems. No Man, No Problem - Joseph Stalin" Enjoy. P.S. Its nothing personal. Please know this rep comes from a spirit of friendship and joy rather than angst and anger.
Thank you, thank you! I fully appreciate the forthcoming attitude - a sign of good character. If you want it to stick though, you need to find a different forum to rep. Politics and Religion doesn't give a red/green up/down score - just a no impact blue thingy. Try the SEO forum, where you will find several recent posts. (In fact, if you look you will find one fairly recent where I front someone off for trying to get free work - that one might actually be worthy of a nic.) But, you really miss the point. When you turn on the light in a dark room you have watch for the first sign of movement. That is the cockroaches scattering for cover. I saw that first movement. Did you?
He bounced back once again! Up 2 points to 52% today. He still hasn't fallen under 50% on Gallup. I honestly really expected him to dip to 49% or even 48% today. It's a really good sign that he seems to have this really consistent support at that 50% area.
The fun part about watching you fools try to blame Obama for everything is that the more you do it the more you're going to have to give him credit when things turn around. Logic is funny like that.
Zibblu, you know I love you man, and agree with pretty much 100% of everything you say, but this day to day watching of the polls is a bit obsessive. Not only do daily numbers jump around because of the margin of error, but people are fickle and change their minds in little ways every day. In the long haul, averages and trends are the only thing worth looking at.** ** Unless an election is less than 3 days away, in which case the daily polls matter.
I'm sure I'm biased on this, but I actually think he needs to worry most about his base. Why? Because it's the progressive movement that really worked their tails off to get him elected and it's mostly because of this huge expansion of the electorate (more young people and minorities voting) that he won in 2008. He needs for the progressive base to be excited about his re-election in 2012 otherwise there will be little energy there. I hope 2012 isn't just about beating whatever awful candidate the Republicans put up, I want it to be about four more years of something good. I think the Republicans are going to do a very good job of scaring away the moderate vote in 2012, so I'm not too concerned about that.
Zibby, did it ever occur to you that more people hated Bush than liked Obama? I think his voting populous consisted mainly of stupid people, and people that just did not like Bush very much. Its not saying much when you are not elected, the other guy was kinda "fired", even though he could not run again... Ultimately the election was about Bush vs. Obama, not Obama vs. McCain/Palin. In the end, those lost, disenfranchised and middle of the roaders will leave the stupid people behind and rally around someone else that they hate a little less. Let me guess, you carry a picture of Obama in your wallet?
I'm not too concerned about the 2012 GOP field as it's looking extremely weak (to say the least.) Certainly dissatisfaction with Bush did drive much of the 2008 election, but it's also true that wasn't the only driving point. Obama got many people excited about politics who are not normally interested in politics and it's essential that he keep these people engaged if he wants them to get out and vote in 2012 (and 2010, which is also very important.) That's why I think it's actually the politically the right thing to do, to do the right thing. Because playing "middle of the road" isn't going to win over those on the right. Those people are unreachable. And I think moderate voters respond most to results. I don't think they are really too receptive to the far right wing fringe that is now controlling the Republican party. If Obama brings results, they won't care how he got them.
