what is the degree of difficulty of each PR climb? For example, how many links are needed to increase from PR 1 to PR 2? Is it the same amount of links we need to climb from PR 9 to PR 10?

I think that page rank is still important, because on this forum on buy sell trade people are just trading according to the page rank.

PR is not necessarily dead, but Google does NOT want people to go balls out over it.

You don't need a high PR to get good rankings. Good SEO will lead to good rankings which will lead to higher PR.

It gets exponentially higher as you go up. Like the guy said before, 1-4 is pretty easy to get. 5-6 requires a lot of work. And 7+ is usually almost impossible unless you are very popular or figured out a scheme.

PR is not based on the number of links.

It is quite possible to go from a PR 0 to a PR 6-7 with a single link - such as a link from the home page of Microsoft, Adobe, etc. You will normally only see this on internal pages of established sites though

On the other hand, a link from a news story on an established news site (i.e. CNN, PC World, et.al.) can pass a lot of PR juice.

PR is logrythmic, but we don't know the exact spread on it. Still, you can conclude that it takes something like 7 times as much PR to mover from 1-2 as it did to move from 0-1.

There is a white paper out there that explains the original patent for computing page rank. Lots of math, but if you are bored it might be worth a read.

Excellent disscussion, i think pr just give us a sense that the sites have good reputation from google, and seems it will help you good for ranking in serp if you get a link from the high pr sites? But really?

Maintaining a good PR may not be that important to rank well in the SERPs anymore. But it does help when you want to build links with other quality sites. If you have a PR4 site, for example, you will find it much easier to build links with other PR4+ sites than if you have a PR1 site.

No. Good rankings will not lead to good PR because PR is all about inbound links nothing more, nothing less.

Link building is part of good SEO, and should be one of your primary focuses.

My point was that if you just focus on good SEO, it will eventually lead to higher PR, instead of focusing on just PR.

Sometimes I just want to scream after reading the uninformed drivel that gets posted to these boards.

PR does effect rankings. It is a core element of the Google algorythm.

PR is not all about inbound links. It is calculated from inbound links, and so is related, but it reflects both quality and quantity.

I wonder if posters here really believe half the stuff they say. If so, then it is little wonder that SEO has a bad name.

Page Rank does affect a lot. To increase page rank, we have to work hard for our website and build a number of quality link, make our web site seo friendly and less use of flash, frames and there are lots of things to keep in mind.
