Hi there very new to internet marketing. try not to rattle on but will give a breif rundown.

PLEASE IM NOT SELLING ANYTHING AND WANT GENUINE ADVICE, NOT EVEN POSTING LINKS TO MY SITES!!!

32 year old, married with beautiful family, nurse of 10 years and due to personal reasons can no longer do this. financially we are getting crushed. anywa off with the sobstory.

found about internet marketing via a thing called wealthy affiliate, tried and failed there, but felt all bamboozled with foreign concepts. Came across thirty day challenge, all good but for me seemed to promote and get you used to using software that you eventually have to purchase. after my trails with the software, and honestly not 100% committment, cant really follow their stuff. they offer alternatives but not for everything really.

so here i am, about 6 months into this stuff, subscribed to hosting, bought a few domains, sort of worked out how to get a blog on the domains, banging out quite a few articles and linking them to the domains i have bought. No adverts on the domains or web pages yet, but signed up to and trying to get head round google adsense. using hostgator, so use my 'main domain' access to use hostgators web builder, the other domains i have have wordpress blogs attached to them.

So where do i go from here?

should i plough adsense on them, or some affiliate links (as soon as i can work them out?

Ive read that it is better to get constant traffic before i try to monetise?? what do people think here?

is a blog the best to attach your domain to, or a web builder? anyone recommend any ones? clearly, preferably easier!!

there are a lot of people about offering advice on internet marketing, anyone actually followed a genuine, free path, someone or some information somewhere where people could actually learn the basics? spoken in good old human form??

I am not greedy, but have family to support, and to do this im getting my bum out of bed early helping my mate on a market now. better than nursing but half the pay. still family has a happy dad! Question is this, i dont personally know anyone who has made a living in this way. im probably fishing for hope here, but is it realistic to be making a living online the same as an nhs nurse, approx 25000 gbp (pcm haha i wish!). feasable? according to a lot of the forums yes, but always thinking "are they internet marketing me??"

Ill stop now sorry about long post and many thanks to anyone who took the time in reading, and any help or pointers would be appreciated. thanks, alan.

I know how you feel, making money online is elusive and yet you can feel how real it is.

    My advice:

Making money off adsense basically always requires plenty of traffic coming in, traffic you can't afford to be paying for. So unless your websites are ranked nicely for plenty of good keywords, your unlikely to make any real quick money with adsense.

My site which gets 400 people\day makes $6\day with adsense... and my click-thru rate is really high actually, over 18%

Adsense is about getting LOTS of traffic, or getting traffic on really valuable adsense terms. Not easy, because you'll find PLENTY of competition there.

    Honestly man,
my advice is to keeping learning and have lots of patience... just to rank a page near the top of google takes time and effort.

Do one thing and get good at it. - The big guys started at home while working their day jobs I hear. Only then did they make changes to their daily lives ... Sounds like good sound advice to me.

A lot of people are turning to the internet hoping to supplement their offline income. On the flipside, some experienced internet marketers are getting offline jobs. The internet is not recession proof.

This has more to do with focusing your efforts on building content rich websites and not wasting your time trying to monetize a site that can't be monetized. Then if you reach X number of visitors per day (everyone has a different threshold) you take the concept to the next level. If the traffic doesn't turn out, you either change the site or shut it down and move onto another one. The people who make 3 blog posts and then get all excited to put ads up are putting the cart before the horse.

For a noob that doesn't know anything yet, a blog is the most popular since it requires no technical knowhow. But the absence of a special skills requirement means that tons of people are doing it, watering things down and usually making very little. Eventually you will have to learn HTML and CSS in full, have a strong working knowledge of PHP and a basic working knowledge of MySQL and Javascript. A little bit of skill with Photoshop is also a must.

99% of people offering this type of advice are selling something in some form and not to be trusted. The vast majority of them are failed webmasters, so they put up their sites that ramble on about how you can be lazy and still make millions and try to sell you an ebook telling you how. It is snakeoil. Another thing, beware of anyone on forums with an advice site in their sig. Real webmasters very rarely operate those kind of sites.

The top 5-10% of affiliate webmasters make all of the money. If you want to talk about the web developers that make things happen online, that is a very elite group in terms of looking at everyone as a whole.

With time it is possible. One thing to beware of though is people telling you they are making a lot of money, but you don't know what country they are from. A lot of money to one person on these boards could mean that someone in another country may as well go live under a bridge with the homeless because it's just pocket money.

My advice in closing..... Use your 10 years of nusing expirence to start up two nursing blogs. One about the medical industry and another about medical topics for the general public to read. Start slow. Treat it as a hobby at first. Then a serious hobby. Then go from there.

You will try stuff and you will fail sometimes, but you have to remember that your failures get you
    closer to you ultimate success.

A famous speech by Winston Churchill comes to mind he said

    "Never Give Up
    Never Give Up
    Never Never Never"

In that short yet sweet speech, is a lot of wisdom!

For the first few monthly, you need to avoid putting ads at your blog.
This will drive your traffic away coz the ads.
And you should only add minimal ads after you get consistent traffic.

hi many thanks for all your help and pointers so far. Yes think it makes sense to try and get traffic consistent to my site before trying to monetise it.

How do people check if there is minimal competing pages, with good search numbers per day? how do people see where they rank for their individual keywords? and how do people establish if it is a pointless market? I am happy to put the effort in and make it look all good and full of content, and yes im sure as i learn i will get better at it all, but in the meantime there is still no money coming in.. :(
I did have a way to establish these inital facts first, but following the 30 day challenge, and the software they recommended - it was a 'trial' offer and now left me a bit lost!

    many thanks all here.

ps going to attempt to learn HTML as a few people here have recommended it, anyone in the process of learning it, or brand new to it all? Advice for me and all?

Many thanks again for all your time, Alan.

I know you probably don't want to spend even more money because you bought hosting and domains and junk, but I recommend if you really want to learn how to make money that you sign up for a coaching course. Take a look at this one with my review of it http://netsuccessblog.com/2009/10/2...ers-review-–-is-maverick-money-makers-a-scam/

Making money here isn't rocket science but you do have to have a business plan and be ready to take a few risks.

Also on the Internet I find anything you want to do will require good keywords, you will want to use googles keyword tool, its free and very easy to use, if you run into trouble i have a tutorial on my site on how to use it also.

Again, ignore anyone trying to pitch you a coaching system.

If you buy the one in the thread above me, that guy gets a commission for selling it to you. That was his only motive for posting to this thread.

    Pathetic.

Not even close to my only motive. He could go far with help from a coaching course, doesn't have to buy it from my site he can go elsewhere doesn't matter to me.

But they would help him a great deal if he applied their tips and techniques because i agree with you there is absolutely no way you will make money being lazy and sitting around. You have to get out there and learn a little HTML and CSS, how a basic site operates, how affiliate marketing works (if thats the road you chose), how to promote your site and your products, how to drive traffic to your site (QUALITY free traffic), how to build an email list, free ways to promote via articles, classifieds and such and such. Its ALOT of work and a steep learning curve and you can always use all the help you can get.

Most of all you have to be willing to do all that work and not give up, takes month and sometimes up to a year to start seeing results, but thats just like anything else. It all just takes time.

Ok many thanks for the response. OK now I guess I am going to leave myself wide open, an internet marketers dream by asking this (silly?) question, but............

Advised above to consider paying for some form of tuition or guidance. now google this and there are mounds as i'm sure you are all aware. And i'm guessing that that there will be a lot of rubbish and regurgitated stuff. BUT somewhere there must be good stuff, so where? And how do I or anyone REALLY establish which is which. I, as i'm sure many others would be happy to part with hard earned money for the right tuition. People do it all the time in all walks of schooling. But, the question is REALLY how do we decide which one is legit and genuinely good info? Or maybe better to hang around forums like this and trial and error?

Hope for some genuine help and advice here. Yes I am neither lazy or expecting millions overnight, again i'm sure there are many others lost as I am.

    Thanks again, Alan.

Well im not going to try and sell you this because its entirely up to you if you want it from me or without an affiliate link (If you want to you can buy it through my site in the signature link), so I will just tell you what I have been using to coach me from the start and what I honestly think would work best for you....

The program is called Maverick Money Makers which is run by professional internet marketer Mac Michaels, he and several other professionals created hundreds of tutorials on anything about how to make money online usually using affiliate marketing. He gives you free ways to promote your products and shows you in videos and also sometimes e-books (whichever you prefer) how to do this quickly and effectively. From things like article marketing he will show you how to write effective SEO articles that rank high in search engines and generate lots of traffic, how to use PPC without wasting loads of money!, all the way to things like how effectively build a website and use it to promote your words whether it be your product and how to make this site land high in google rankings. I have been using this program from a year now and have been putting all of the methods I could and the information they give is outstanding, it is possible to find this information maybe for free on the internet but it would take a VERY long time, its better to get them to do it for you and have them sum it up in a way you could understand. Also with new videos added daily to help you and several other things that will help you out greatfully. You just have to listen to them and carry out their actions they tell you to do and you will succeed. Maverick Money Makers has a 90 day money back guarantee too, so if you decide you don't like it they will refund you 100%.

So hey you might as well check it out, and if you don't like it get a refund. But I belive this will help you out greatly despite what people say.

All input appreciated here people, and thanks again for this advice.

Or maybe there is someone here who could offer a guide to newbies on a direction to at least start out on? Looking at this forum it looks like there are some trying to sell, but an awful lot of genuine people offering good advice and generally supporting needy confsed folk like me. Honestly just looking for genuine advice without motive, im already bitten by the trying to make sites bug and the article writing bug and have (i hope) helped friends and a few on non-marketing related forums to have a look at this field and offer what bits i already know, and im sure there are people like me that once learn something new want to share with others.

Looking forward to hear from all, and all help sucked in gratefully!!

Read this article here about being able to tell what is a scam and what to look for in a site and product in order not to get scammed, the article is here: http://netsuccessblog.com/2009/11/09/is-this-a-scam-how-to-tell-fake-products-and-scam-sites/

I wrote it in response to this question I am often asked, so I wrote an article instead of just explaining it in this thread. And NO it is not selling anything, its just how to avoid being scammed. So please read and leave me a comment on what you think. It should answer your question of what is good and not just simply taking money.

Not even cloooose, its not a test just things people look for when thinking it could possibly be a scam.

And not all program are scams, people are just too lazy to put their methods to work and they think that it doesn't take any time or hard work
