Yeah i have read this statement all over the internet now.

    BTW

If there is only content (King) and more content (King) - It's Gay without backlinks (Queen)

The designations are interchangeable. The one that dominates is a King and the rest are queens or jacks.

does it really matter which one is more important. The fact is that you will fail without both.

Unique keyword optimized content is king. This will get you to the top of the SE for those terms, people will see it, and the good content will make them link back to it. It's a snowball effect. ;)

keywords are the king, be it in content or links. Top it off with good domain name, excellent content, articles and information and you have yourself a #1 ranking site on any top search engine.

You wont get to the top of SE for terms that people search very often on without off page optimization. Therefore, people won't see it.

You can't have one without the other.

True. Perhaps what I meant to say was good, unique, properly researched keyword optimized content is king. By properly researched I mean low competition, high volume of searches. Using these in great content will snowball into backlinks from readers. :) However, creating backlinks from competitive authority sites is extremely important as well.

I think you give great advice for key phrase analysis and creating good content. It's this phrase I have a problem with.

That makes it sounds like all you have to do is on page optimization, and some magical wand will be waved over your site and traffic and backlinks will appear automatically.

I don't care how good the content is, you're going to have to start a link building campaign, and put just as much diligence into your off page optimization as you did you on page optimization, or the overwhelming chances are that no one will ever read that great content you put together and embedded with all those carefully analyzed key phrases.

Good content on your site will get you backlinks. Backlinks will then help you rank well.

I'm just answering the proposed question which appeared to be that if you had to choose between content and links, which would it be. So I'm just weighing the lesser of two evils here.

If you have links with no content, people may find your site, but they'll just bounce right back off it, they won't buy anything, and they certainly won't link back to it.

If you have great content optimized for keywords that you can dominate, people can find your site, enjoy the content, and one by one link back to it. Of course no magic wand will be waved where traffic will flood your site, but if your on page optimization is great enough with low competition, high traffic keywords, you can rank well enough for some to find your site. And because the content is good, those few will start linking back to it, which can than raise your ranking.

Again, I'm answering the proposed question, and weighing the lesser of two evils. As I said, in actually, both are extremely important.

Well think if it from the eyes of an average web surfer. They go to google, enter in their search and click the first link they see. Now if that's your site, you just got more traffic. But if there isn't any content worth reading, the most you can hope to get is a click from an adsense ad because they clicked the first link they could find to get them off the site. If you are ranked number one AND you have a site worth visiting, then you are doing good. In the long run, yeah content is very important, but why not do link building as well. They will both help.

CONTENT IS KING.. PR is nothing if you don't have quality contents. Content is KING because it creates repeat visits. Yes high page rank increase traffic but if the site doesn't have good content, people won't come back again. Look at some famous blogs. They don't focus of PR's but since they post good articles, many people come back to their site on a daily basis :)

Not necessarily, not with all the SEO's working their arse off to bring up crap sites on serp's
Of course, if you have high rankings and then leave it, it will retain on its own with natural links, at that point content is king
But when the website is new both content and link are equal kings:D
