Very nice. I see that we are prompted with an "contract with the seller" popup. What happens if the winning bidder backs out?

That option was always there. Was just wondering if some additional rules will be added once this new bidding system is implemented.

Yeah one new rule could be:

Infraction for posting I Bid $x, in the thread to pad up post count :D

Yes, for private bids, the seller can see all of them, and the buyer can see the ones that is theirs.

    Good idea... done.

There aren't currently any additional requirements. We can technically require any field we want on the backend, but we aren't right now. If someone really wants to sell something without telling what it is, I guess they can (for now).

I made it show 25 by default, and you can click to view all.
Will be in the sections that can use it.
    When it's ready.

Love what's been done so far, it's a huge step forwards for DP :)

2 suggestions though. Firstly, could you make it possible to let the user collapse the bid history once its been expanded? Secondly, will sellers have the ability to choose their own bid increment? Finally, for those topics with a set BIN, will there be an option for users to perhaps hit a "Buy it Now" button - that alerts the seller (who then has the option to close the thread...?) *shrug*

Probably not going to make it let you collapse once you have expanded... the way the expansion was done it adds 2 innerHTMLs together (one that was hidden to start with) so everything can exist within the same table, and it's a lot more difficult to split to existing innerHTMLs, so meh... more trouble than it's worth to be honest. Can just reload if you want. :)

And yes... the increment amount is already set on a per auction basis.

Yeah, well that was a 10 second hack before I went to bed ~3:30 am to keep people from maxing the system with absurd bids when I was sleeping. :)

The funny thing? I didn't even start coding the bidding system until last night... that's what happens when I'm bored and my girlfriend went to go visit family and I have nothing to do. lol

BTW - it's also live and available for use to anyone now.

I had thought about that... with the new bid price, who it was, time, etc... but just decided to give a link to the auction instead. Putting the info in the email might not actually be valid by the time you read it (someone else might be the new high bidder for example).

If an auto-bid instantly outbids you, you aren't notified via email since you know the instant you place the bid.

Would it be possible to sort threads by nr of bids (open auctions only)? (not the default sort, but just an option)

Yeah, it's technically possible, but going to hold off on all the fancy marketplace view modes until vBulletin 4.
