Target 200,000 USD in a year – A Journal

Alright here we go.
What I am trying to achieve is making 200 K in a year timeframe. The year starts at November 01, 2009 and ends at November 1, 2010. Also the idea is to establish a business, not just creating a few sites here and there. I will use only free traffic to achieve the goal.

To achieve the objective I will use all available online moneymaking tips. Primarily the business will have earnings from adsense, affiliate programs, clickbank, generating leads and providing services.

The business will have real employees and me, being a lazy bastard will just do the management  I have slight edge over others as (a) I am already in India, where labor cost is less (b) I am already running a similar business.

However this business is going to be a brand new business. Also I am immigrating to a new country in coming months. So I shall be managing the business from a remote country.
I will keep on posting my updates over here from time to time.

The only intent of starting this journal over here is so that I can get inputs from the community instantly and improve my strategy accordingly. In return the community will get benefited from my experience.

That's a good start, if you stick to your plan, I am sure you can achieve that amount in one year time.

 

I highly doubt this will happen, as if it were easy for a 'lazy bastard' to make $200,000 in a given year by using only free LEGAL resources. then we would all be rich, or have money.

Anybody who achieves even 30K in an online business over a year is a winner in my book.

 

To begin with I will start only with the positive energy, hence won't respond to negative comments to begin with. My whole idea behind posting over here is because I will have many people to report to, I will remain motivated. Also my ideas will be fine tuned with the help of the community. I have no doubt that the target is well achievable. I am already running a successful venture generating similar revenue.
Alright, Here we Go with this new venture.
Day 1

Start building Content Sites

I love building content site with huge updated content. These sites primarily will use adsense as revenue source. I will build the sites with at least 500 unique content pages to begin with. Once the site is ready, good effort will be put in link building of the site. The target for each site will be to generate traffic of 1000 unique visitors a day in 3 months times frame. I will start with 2-3 sites to begin with. Depending upon the performance of the site, more number of sites will be created in successful niche till I am dominating in that niche.

The very first step is niche research. A successful niche should have three factors 1) More number of people searching for it 2) Less competition 3) High potential of generating revenue on per click basis 4) Has potential of generating a site of thousand pages with unique keywords. An example is celebrities or dating is a bad niche in my opinion as it ranks positive for point number 1 & 4, but negative on point 2 and 3.

There can be tens of ways of doing niche research. The way I do niche research is I go to CJ.com Over there they have advertisers identified under different sub-categories. I pick up each sub category, do some google to come out with topics under that niche.
Now (1) Check at Google Keyword suggestion tool, how many people are searching for that topic. When I do the initial research I always check exact match. Also check out if the topics has several hundred long tail keywords on which articles can be written. I never go for topics that are searched for lesser than 75,000 a month (2) Once a topic is qualified under point 1, I check for the competition at Google. Contrary to what many niche researchers say, I do not search the topics in quotes. I search the topic and its keywords without quotes on google. A topic that has lot many keywords with less than a million results is golden. Even the keywords upto 4-5 million results are OK. (3) Then I go to Adwords bidding tool to see what others are bidding for in that niche. It will give me a fair idea as how much I can expect to earn. As a general principle I never go for a niche that has average CPC of less than a dollar.

So based upon these criteria I will identify the niches. Once the niches are finalized then I will repeat same exercise to finalize the site keywords that I will go after. I will devote good 8-10 hours to identify two niches.

I will also start recruiting content writers to write the content for the site. For that will need to publish ad in News Paper and on online job sites.

You even can target Nepal to get your workers. Labors in Nepal is even more economic and the ppl over here have good knowledge of IT.

All you need is 200,000 clicks that pay a dollar and you got it.

But I'm going to tell you this ( and I'm not trying to give you negative energy ) but the likely hood of you actually doing this is very slim you are setting very unrealistic goals. You should consider setting a goal of 1,000$ a month which is great for any website that is just starting off, am I right?

It isn't as easy as you are making it sound there are countless I mean countless people that have the same attitude that you do with close or similar goals that are going to be crushed once next year rolls around. I doubt next year you will even remember this post.

But you can do It I believe that people can do whatever they set there mind to its going to take time but please don't get hurt once you don't see the results you where after just be happy that you got anything in return. Just keep investing all the money that your site earns back into your site and after about 3 -4 months you should have sustainable traffic, and after about 6 months you will see revenue generated going up, but 200,000k in a year is a lot I wish the best.

 

it is quite not impossible but to establish a business it takes time. Hope you archive the target but for affiliate marketing it need time as that is totally dependent on traffic and in 1yr its hard to reach to the limit which can covert it ti 20k. Anyways Good luck

 

Alright . End Of Day 1. I will post the status in next post, however on this one, I will respond to questions asked by the community.

What you said is right. However as I mentioned previously I am already running an online business that makes me more than what I am targeting with new venture. I have the office and the setup and stuff. From day one, I am going to pump in number of people working with me to write the content and work on SEO. So it won't be just me working 12 hours a day, instead it is me working with a team of 6-8 people to begin with.

Its a difficult goal but not unrealistic. You are right when you say setting a target of 1K a month for a new site. But I am not starting just one new site. Instead I will be having 8-10 mammoth sites with intent of dominating certain niches 100%. Also making money from clicks is just a part of the overall revenue model. The model includes lead generation, a bit of service providing, clickbank, Affiliate stuff among all.

When I say I am 'lazy bastard' all I mean is instead of working full time on technicalities, I love to work on management. Isn't it the ultimate aim of all IMs. If at all we have to get engaged 100% time to make the same money then why will anyone quit the day job and get into the business. My aim is establishing a real company that can run without my interference and still produce revenue for me.

End of Day 1

Today was a productive day. Attached is a chart of my proposed revenue model.

Today as per the plan I had to decide on niches for adsense sites. However first I decided to go ahead with Lead Generation sites. I have decided to go ahead with Auto Insurance Leads and Payday Loan Leads. Reason behind selecting Auto Insurance leads is it is a very high converting niche. Most of the people who search for auto insurance are the potential buyers. Also the good thing with Auto Insurance is most of the people are looking for the deal, so they are willing to fill up form at any web-site that gives them cheap auto insurance. Compare it with Life Insurance, people go with only companies of repute. Also there are lot many buyers for Auto Insurance Leads, a few of them I know personally.

The other is Payday Loan. Good thing with payday loan is it is very high paying niche. I even make $85-$90 per qualified application. Also most of the people who are looking for payday loan are desperate with immediate need of money. These people really do no have much option, so they end up filling any form on the net that offer them dollars tomorrow.

Obviously both of these niches are very crowded, but so is almost every profitable niche on the web. When it comes to building lead generation sites, I prefer to go with something that is very widely popular, compared to adsense / affiliate type sites where you go with least competition sites.
I also recruited one full time content writer and one Junior SEO who will work 168 hours a month for me. I also have created the company profile at various project sites. I am not really a great fan of freelancing sites. However good thing is they start showing you some money immediate and the money is the biggest motivator of all time

Tomorrow I will do domain name research and keyword research for Life Insurance niche. I will come out with 200 topics on Life Insurance niche. Out of 200, will use 100 at my site and remaining 100 will be used in article marketing.
