What is the best OS for a brand new computer. Also, do some OS's work better with different brands of computers, if so what brands match with OS's

Buy any PC you want... Use Ubuntu Linux 9.10... It is the best...

    Get Windows for yourself.

If you have a little girl, get her a mac (yes, because little girls use mac; yes that was an insult to any male mac users reading this).

If you have real little kids, or are expecting to have kids in a while from now; get those little buggers in a computer science course (something I never took, changing that next semester) and train them on Linux.

I still think Windows XP is the best, and Ubuntu is another one.
