Monetizing a guitar tab/lyrics website

    Hey guys,

I basically have a guitar tablature website and wanted your suggestions on how to monetize it to it's full potential. I felt guitar tabs and lyrics sites fall under a similar category so wanted suggestions of owners of either sites.

I currently run AdSense on there with a few affiliate links on the sitewide links. Personally I don't feel that AdSense is the best option on sites like this as visitors come and go very quickly without really looking at the ads. That's just my personal opinion, if you feel otherwise please tell me.

Just to give an idea of what size of site we're looking at in terms of traffic, in October it received:

    92,599 Unique Visitors
    453,518 Page Views

And the top 10 traffic source breakdown is:

    United States 11,089
    France 6,363
    Germany 5,429
    Italy 4,557
    Brazil 4,186
    Mexico 3,880
    Poland 3,519
    United Kingdom 3,473
    Spain 3,355
    Argentina 2,935

Please give me your opinions on how to monetize this site!:)

    Thanks!

    Hodge

I wouldn't go with CPA lead. When people find out you are promoting shady links/offers, they will stop visiting your site.

The forum was not very active ..and like a dummy I clicked on a link in one of the discussions and found my browser under attack. It was an attempt to hijack my browser. Had to use task manager to close the window. Good thing my anti virus is updated.. I don't know about cpalead.com, but BEWARE of their forum. I would have notified the web site, but had to register to do so and couldn't trust it after this happened....

Well I have to admit, in terms of first impressions from the website I wasn't too impressed. Considering it's meant to be an advertising program website I thought it didn't look very professional. Also the survey to gain access to content isn't ideal in my opinion but as I said, I am very open to ideas right now. So yeah, I will give it a go before passing judgement.

Saying that I am very interested in other alternatives, so if you have any ideas please tell me.

    Cheers! :D

    450k pageviews per month with valueclick cpm @ $0.5 = $225/month.

Add both 300x250 + regular banner size = double money for same pageviews.
This $500/month has its advantages, cause your userbase isn't going to suffer as a result of having to jump through hoops to get to content.

Selling a clickbank guitar playing guide or tab reading guide may also generate some income from a measly text link.

That was exactly my thought but this site got rejected from ValueClick due to the fact that the "site does not meet our quality requirements". I'm guessing they're not happy with the fact it is a tablature website?

Here are the best Guitar Affiliate programs that you can promote:

    http://www.jamorama.com/affiliates.html
    http://www.learnandmasterguitar.com/affiliate.htm
    http://www.guitartips.com.au/signup
    http://www.jamplay.com/affiliates/
    http://www.greenmonstermusic.com/affiliate-program.php

None of them is my site or affiliate link...

You can also pick few offers from CJ and sell guitars and accessories. Since you already have a guitar related website, it should not be difficult to get approved....

    Hope that helps,

Thanks for you input Anup, I'll give those a go.

So are you an affiliate with each of those? I've heard of jamorama before but haven't actually given them a go. I'm currently affiliated with GuitarPro, GuitarAlliance and JamPlay. GuitarAlliance used to do well but the last 4-5 months have been horrible with 0 sales... Strange... :-s

Also how is JamPlay working out for you? I'm curious about other peoples' experience with
them because I signed up with them about a month ago. I have to say the payout is great, but the conversion rate is very low. Last month I sent them 1500 visitors from one of my other sites and only made
2 sales, which I was very disappointed about. Maybe I'd have better success with them if I send the visitor directly to the order page, rather than just to their homepage.

Yeah man, I've been to your site. It is very nice. You might look around, a couple of places I have seen advertised would be musicworkshop.com (I believe) and I also think that musicademy.com has a great product and would convert well if they have an affiliate program and you advertised it on some of your Christian song tabs.

Have you looked to the ads Lyrics007 is using? You might give those a try, especially the ringtone advertisements might bring in some good money ;)

What about sharing 1/4 of the tab, and to get the rest they have to pay a small fee through a payment processor like PayPal? Ok some folks will run away and search for another site, but I'm sure many people that really want the tab will pay for it, especially if the price isn't too high ;)

    Hodge,

I am not into guitar niche so can't comment on my experience.. My friend is into it though and he is getting good conversions from the top 3 sites that I mentioned.. He had same problem with Jamplay so he stopped promoting it...

    Hope that helps,
