I'm trying to decide if its worth it to go, can you guys tell me what you have gotten out of it in the past and if you think it is worth it?
I haven't attended one yet (always too busy). However, I'm going this year. Since I live here, I just need to mosey on over. I asked this same question over at Webmaster World in the supporter's forum(I'm a supporter). All replied said it's worth the cash. My main concern was that I've been doing this stuff since early 1994 and was wondering what all I could "learn". The networking alone could be worth the price. Someone else said they picked up a tip that paid them back many times over. It's supposed to be friendly and one of the better conventions out there.
After you go could you post what you think and if it was worth it? I decided not to go, I read a lot of forums etc and just am not sure its worth the 1800 convention cost, 250 a night hotel, and 300 dollar plane ticket. thanks! ben
Yea. I'll try to post what I thought. The convention is almost $500. Not sure where you saw $1800--unless you meant the total cost for your trip.
$500? http://www.pubcon.com/register.htm Online Signup : $469 USD $1299 USD at conference. 500 now and then 1300 when you get there?
No. It's $469 if you pre-register online. That's it. If you show up and need a ticket, it's jacked up to $1,300. All conventions do this to get you to buy ahead of time so they can plan better and sell sponsors by showing the # of people coming.
Oh their page is hella confusing then, me and my partner both thought that is what they meant, is SES san jose the same way I guess?
Pretty much every convention has an "early bird" price and a "I'm not paying til I show up" price. Usually the at the door price is at least 2 times higher. Like I said, they want people to get tickets ahead of time so they can add fuel to their booth/sponsor selling machine.
I wanted to go to these pubs also but too expensive. I wish someone could post (soon) the topics & discussion details they had.
I'm thinking over visiting the next PubCon cause I came to the conclusion that it worth it. When Matt Cutts said he's heading there.. How long in advance do they give the dates?
I'm here right now in Vegas for my very first Pubcon. So far I've really enjoyed the first day. I walked away with quite a bit of "to-do" for improving my sites, etc. I know if you are a paid member of webmasterworld you get a 15% discount as well if you buy admission in advance. I think I paid under $400. Can't remember the exact price. I've posted some info on my blog about one session in particular I found interesting... It was from Google's Search Evangelist Adam Lasnik on what they like to see in sites for SEO/quality. More to come after I get back from today's sessions... http://sockmoney.blogspot.com/2006/11/pubcon-recap-day-one-seo-advice-from.html
Odonata, I booked back in June. I think they announced the dates in May. Though Brett Tabke mentioned in his opening speech yesterday that he was already working on securing the convention space for next year. He said it was going to be the same time/dates and same location.
networking and connecting with other publishers and advertisers is always worth it... especially since you can write it off as an expense
I couldn't make it--even though I live here and drive by there a couple times a week. Yes, WW supporters got a deal. Maybe next year.
