Not a whole day, a whole 6 months full time would be more like it. :)

    What I have gathered:

    1. I am the best to do SEO on my site.
    2. It takes a while to do properly.
    3. It is trial and error.

    What I will do:

    1. Set a few days aside to read about the best methods.
    2. After my exams spend Christmas working on the SEO of my sites.

    What I want to do:

    1. Is thank everyone for their input into my question, it is really appreciated. :)

You are on the right track, if you have the time and interest it is better to learn and do it on your own.

It is worth paying for if you have a business that is making money and a lot depends on ranking. Then you can invest money and make it back. But if it is not a big business and you have time do it yourself then doing it yourself is better

I see SO MANY worthless SEO people now days… Tons have no clue and the just spam places with your url, buy garbage links and a bunch of other stuff that will just harm your site.

So even if you end up hiring someone in the future it is good to know the basics and what is bad and what is good for your site.

Here is a few basics http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769

You better start learning SEO yourself - It's a good talent to have, because close to EVERY site is doing it, and you will be left in the cold if you don't :)

And hiring a guru is indeed expensive

It is because when ever your aunt says she can do SEO, those who actually produce results tend to require money for it. :D

To hire a SEO guru is a great idea because if you are looking to for big business you must spend for SEO. Those who think little can earn little only.

It is wise to spend money on SEO specialists and some offer a very affordable service. There are quite a few service providers that can get the job done without you paying a lot of money.

    Hi manUTD,

SEO is worth paying or not, it depends upon the kind of service you are providing are worth spending money or not.If you spend some money doing SEO by hiring professionals, and then you find that your sales are not growing then it would be all in vain.

So if you have got some really good products and services then you can surely hire some good professional SEO company.
