CirtexHosting Down for 16 hours and still not up yet

Discussion in 'Outages' started by kacangijo, Oct 31, 2009.

Anyone using cirtexhosting around? One of their server: cherry been down for 16 hours (as I checked it) and still not up yet till now.

I tried to contact the support and they said cherry server went down due to some critical problems. FSCK is currently running on server.
I don't even know what FSCK means.

This is very bad, I have many commercial websites running on that hosting company and they all down.

    Gossh...!!!

Their twitter feed doesn't mention anything about it: http://twitter.com/cirtexhosting
But their status page lists it as being down. Very odd.

I'm guessing that the RAID controller failed on the server. Either that or some other hard drive problem that's forcing them to run FSCK--this can take a very long time depending on how much data was on the drive(s).

You should just ask them to move your account to another server, once they get things up and running again.

You may even lose data, unless the fsck is successful.

It was really only a matter of time. They oversold their CPU time more than their space and bandwidth. Allowing ffmpeg on a shared hosting environment is crazy.

I wonder if their plan was to just get a lot of customers with good prices and then sell the company. That's probably just bad speculation, but their prices are too good to be true for what they offer. It's not a sustainable hosting model.

I don't suppose you have backups of your site(s)?

If you do then you have the option to grab half decent hosting from somewhere else and point your domain to the new host, it won't be an instant fix as the domain name will take time to propagate but it might get you online quicker than waiting.

Just an idea if there's no sign of the current server coming online.

Shame, as you don't have the backups you are stuck waiting for the server to come up.

However when it does come up, choose a new host that has cPanel and ask them to copy the sites over, they can pull cPanel to cPanel in a lot of cases which is quick, we do it, you just need to give the new host your logins and the server you are on.

As a way to speed up the process:
    • make a note of the current nameserver settings for each domain
    • find a new host using cPanel and sign up with them, ignore resellers
    • point the domains nameservers to the new host, your domains will start to propagate now and reduce or remove that wait
    • then once the old host servers come online, have the host copy the files over

You need to save the current nameserver settings so that the new host can look up the server your sites are on, unless you happen to know the server(s).

That's about the best I can offer you on getting you online asap.
