Is it a good idea or bad idea to keep changing home page title tag to reflect different keywords you want to target.

Lets say I want to rank for "xxxxxxx" keyword so I change my page title and finally hit the first page. Then I want to try for another keyword so I change my homepage <title> tag again.

    Bad idea?

Do not play with your title tag so frequently. Set your keywords you want to target on home page and make the title tag accordingly. Do not keep changing the keywords in title tag.

Never fritter your time changing title tag frequently. It will hamper your brand value. So better to decide this tag in one shot after some good research.

This is an absolutely terrible idea. Why would you want to change the <title>? Is the "theme" of your site and home page content changing?

If your home page <title> is "xxxxxxx" and it starts to rank on page 1 for "xxxxxxx" and then you change it to "yyyyyyy" in hopes of ranking for a new keyword phrase, your rankings for "xxxxxxx" are going to plummet unless you have lots of inbound links with "xxxxxxx" (or slight variations) as the link text.

Definitely not a sensible move. Adding content and updating it is one (good) thing but changing the title doesn't realy make sense from an SEO point of view.

If your site is one year old then dont change your home page title tag. if you want to add more keyword or target other keywords so you add it in your content.
