Is the glass effect overused?

    I'm thinking of making some glass-looking buttons for my website, but first I'd like to know if you think it's too overused. Is it a cliche like the lens flare, which it seems like is a huge Photoshopped-image cliche?

    Glass style is considered quite "Web 2.0" which is in fashion at the moment.

    It is quite overused, but they look good.
    Which is more than can be said about lens flare.

    actually it is not over used. It is part of a website that wants to look good. So nothing like over used it is just makes the layout more appealing..

    ..:: peace ::..

    I agree, glass-looking buttons are used very often, but they still look good and it's a trend now. So I don't think it's a Photoshopped-image cliche as you feared.

    If you're talking about the ones that look like they were ripped off from Apple's website, then yes, they're hideously overused :p yes, it may be trendy, it may be "2.0", it may look nice, but it's unimaginative and boring. But I just say that because I make my living as a designer and see umpteen sites a day with the same buttons all the time :D

    it's like anything if it's done well and made to look your own and works with the overall theme, then i think they're good...

    I think when people just take from other sites then yes it could look overused. Many people have done the "Apple" thing to death but it's boring because they didn't really have any creative input in their new design. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not overused as long as you think about your new layout creatively.

    i think it's ok as long as it fits into the overall scheme of things (design) for your site... who cares if it's overused? if it looks good, i'd go for it...

    you need to have all the website with a " glass look" if you want your buttons to be well included in your website

    A Glass look is very nice, I agree don't use Apple style buttons.

    But adding a glass effect is not a cliche at this point.

    Haha, you are absolutely right. I'm experiencing the addiction of the glass-effect right now and I've been doing that for quite some time now. The pot is history :)
    And as I almost only design 2.0 it's something I use alot. And I dont think it's overused. When it is, what will come next? Im sure it'll be boring.

    Yes, glass effect is overused, just like the blue color, but it has the 'catching power'. It can attract anyone, atleast me ;)
