What is the best method for my site www(dot)swapezy(dot)com to develop back links and to promote it

Ive recently launched the site and do get a few hits but no one has signed up yet (this could be due to not having products up there yet)

What is the best way for me to increase traffic to the site and spread the good word?

You say, your site launched recently. So I would recommend Search engine submissions and Directory submissions for a week. You may not find great results with them. But they make much difference.
Later start social bookmarking. and you can continue with lot many SEO strategies.

Yep it only launched first week of October...ive done some search engine submissions using web ceo, i have submitted to dmoz but it goes through a 2 week analysis phase so I am waiting to get listed on that

I have created a facebook page and a youtube video, but I dont know how to get them noticed when there are so many other companies out there...how can I target my demographic with the stiff competition out there?

building seo website need time with a lot of one way links. there are many ways to get links first submit to high quality web directories, second writing articles to publish on articles directories like ezinearticles.com, then write press release

This is one of the main issues that most people face with new websites. The thing is to continue what you're already doing - posting on forums. Although, you may get traffic, but you will need more than that to rake in the back links that you need.

You may consider link exchange or pay for one-way backlinks. I hear they work well but haven't used it myself.

Here are some of the techniques that helps promote your site:

    blog commenting
    forum posting
    article submissions
    classified ads
    blog commenting

Remember: Get back links on relevant and DoFollow sites because Google gives more value on them.

    That was fine.
While doing SEO for your website, you be keyword/niche specific and avoid deviating from your niche.

Always submit/post on the directories/sites related o your niche only. This makes SEs give your website a great reverence in your niche.

look for some authority links and try to get a backlink from them, this might not be easy if to DIY. Relevant niche is not necessary but if you can get one is a plus.

Hi Tameem, thanks for the reply.

Ok so if I were to write an article, how would that help promote my website? as far as I understand, you cannot write an article to promote your own website

any ideas of what sort of articles I should focus on writing?

thanks helen, that would be fantastic, I want to affiliate with other similar minded websites out there, but i guess i need to establish myself first before I can do that, so its a catch 22 situation I am in.

how would I go about finding out who is willing to do a link exchange? is there such a site out there that does this?

Like many others have said, I would start with directory submissions and article links (ezine is a great way to start). There's also the possibility of using a service such as Linkvana, but if you only have one site and it's not bringing in any money yet, it can be a bit pricey.

    thanks

well linkvana seems to be out of the question for now its too pricey and a bit too soon to use this kind of service, without exhausting the free options available

social sites - for index (poor backlinks)
blog comment + manual links on the web.
