I have just won an expired domain on godaddy. In the final step of the checkout godaddy asks me for the winning amount + the 1 year fee for the doman and for another $30 called "Tax" Can you tell me what tax this is? I am not talking about the value added tax.
People advise me to stay away from godaddy since they overcharge.. I've absolutely no idea what this '"tax" refers to!
I just had the same problem. Bought domain for over $1k and they charge me vat for it. They are the only company that does that.
They should disclose what kind of tax it is. I assume you are outside of US. Most likely it is VAT even if they don't say that. I just can't think of another type of tax they might apply. Just send them an email and they should let you know.
Personally i really don't like Godaddy, mainly because of things like this but the one thing that i really love is how i can get my domain renewed/transferred for $7 (with coupons) I have also never been charged extra, if i was i would complain and leave them for good.
I also tried to change the country to US to see what happens but the tax was still there. Well I paid the $30 to them but I will contact them to see what I paid for.
